r .THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : WEDNESDAY AUGUST 3. 1887 : THE SPECULATIVE MARKETS , Bulls Again Secure a Firm 1-lold of Chicago Trading. WHEAT AND CORN ADVANCING. Thn Latter Lends In the Hlso In Prices Oats Excited Along With the Other Ccrcnls- Quocatlona. CHICAGO PRODUCE MAIIKET. Onicxoo. August 2. ( Special Telegram to the UKK.I llluher prices for grain pre vailed on 'change ' again to-day , following the decided bullish reactions In wheat and corn yesterday. There worn no now arguments on which to bull prices ; no fresh or startling weather or crop reports , and none were needed. The markets had been rescued from the shorts , and with everything on their side the bulls ruled the day and some surprising quotations were the result. Wheat opened , after mnch sensational talk on the curb , at J < c advance over the closing price on Mon day. Trading was n little nervous nnd early prices were not sustained , SepUi'iibur touch ing 7lYc at the start nnd soon selling nt 0 > c , ns on yesterday. Following this bacic- action came a moro gradual advance , which was sustained and which lett Septem ber nt 70Xc and December wheat 75 { c , or about Me better. Corn was the speculative center , nnd otter opening Ic over yesterday the bulls hastened to bulge it up another full cent for September and nearly ns much for the other futures. Oats were a little excited ? because of the bullish feeling In corn , and here , too , on advance of from % c to Jfc was made for curly futures. The steady point for September wheat for iho greater part tit the session was 70ic , or c better than the cloiu on yesterday after the Ic advance. The opening prices were the highest of the day nnd were partly the rcniiit of talk on the curb and paitiy caused by the knowledge that leading operators , who ha\o said very much about "hot" wheat for a month past were on yesterday receivers ot much cash wheat. The crowd thought the time had come for a sharp advance , so ttmro was a spasmodic move early. September opened at 71Kc , sold down to the closing price of yesterday at 70Jfc , then up to 7'iXc. ' ftn'd steadied as stated at 70Vc. October also spurted up to 73c and sold back to 72 , ' c , nnd then rallied to 72J c. December opened at 70c. % c over the closing , sold back to 7."i\'c , anil returned with other futures and steadied at 75Jfc. The cry of buyers was that wheat Is too low. They were also encouraged by the outlook of the visible supply , which did not Increase nearly as heavily as at this time last year. The shipping movement , which pormises to reduce the amount In store hern several million bushels for the month , also helped. Hcceipts were liberal at now wheat points , and seaboard cities showed receipts of over 0,000,000 bushels , while the clearings were not flattering. The corn pit was more excited tn-day than any grain lilt on change has been since the wheat panic In June. Corn got away Ire in the shorts yesterday nnd there wus a fright among them to-day. Crop reports were un changed to-day and that was all the bulls do- tdied , as they came on change determined to nend corn up. The September future , whlrb closed strong nt 40c yesterday after an ad vance of 1's'c. opened at 41c , sold up to 41J c , then back to 40c. then up nenln to 42c , back to41iic , nnd liiially up to the highest point for the day nt 4Wc , nnd closed at 42c , Just 2c OTcr yesterday. October sold steadily along from the opening at 41Mc up to 43'fTe , the closing. November closed with October. May corn , as on yesterday , showed the most marked advance and closed at 4 Kc , or ajtfc bettor. Trie excitement In corn had a stimulating effect on oats , but the usual crowd of traders In wheat left their pit to either look on or take a hand In the corn deal. In spite of the boom In corn there arc many cool heads who predict tlmt It Is being forced too high and that operators will probably sutler se verely before the pit .settles. The stocks of provisions reported by the registrar were larcer by 0,000,000 IDS of short r ° lbs than generally anticipated and bad rather a depressing effect on near deliveries and prices declined slightly. The sharp ad vance In corn stimulated trading In January , local and outside traders taking both pork and short ribs , especially the latter , and prices advanced from 90.20 to SO.40 , and the markets closed linn at the top. September ribs sold at 58.irxai8.20 and closed nt S8.17X. hard advanced 7 } < Q10c with fair trading. September sold at 80.G7 } @ 0.75 and closed nt 90.72 } < ® 6.75. January sold at 86.70(90.75 ( and closed at ? 0.73X. Mess pork for Jan uary opened nt 912.00 and sold to S 12.70 and closed at 912.0.1 , an advance of SOc over yes terday , CHICAGO Ij'lVi : STOCK. F1NANUIAU Ni'.w YOIIK , Auitiibt 2. [ Special Telegrum to the HKK.J STOCKS. The stock market continues as perplexing as ever. The strength noted at the close yesterday caused rather a bullish feeling among many of the best operators , and the opening this morn ing was strong nnd fractionally higher. London was a good , buyer. The shorts also cancelled freely , and for n time the indica tions were that the ccuerol market would do better nnd operators were inclined to buy. The market , however , has received too much of a slinking up Iu the lost ten days to re- vlvo suddeuly , there being too many lame ducks around. The suspension of W. ed Vyse , a small operator , was announced , and ugly rumors ot a depressing character were also afloat , which affected the market unfa vorably , and the Impression prevailed thut ttB all the Ivos business must bo cleaned up before B10 fore any permanent good can come to the 10n market. Uould Is believed to have a hand in the market and Is marking It down to affect the AtchUon party in lioston , who are work- lii r Into Missouri Pacific territory , ( iould was said to bo short through a new set > dy df brokers , aud waiting for a better opportunity to cover and absorb a big line of cheap stocks.
