belief that the other operators would want It

The scale was only temporary , however , and
September wheat , which Is named by the
Indicator to-day , steadied at TOXc. Tim
jango of the early session was , for August ,
from C8c down to CSJ c , up to CS c and
back to C8Kc. .September opened at 70j c ,
dropped to 70Xc , sold up to TOJfc. back to
70U'c. and upon the announcement of the
visible Increase went for a minute to 70tfc ,
afterward selllnif at 70 ? < (370 ( > p October
opened at 72c and sold at Wc. , December
onened at 75 > c.
The lirmness tn the corn pit to-day was a
little surprising when the condition of the
crops Is considered In connection with the
decline noticed In all other grains. The
market was moderately active throughout the
fccsslon and the result of the day's trading
was an advance of % c in nearly all futures.
The speculative demand was steady. July
clobrd at 87 , ' < c , or Xu better than Saturday.
August opened up He and advanced fratnilTc
to * n } < c , closing linn. September bexan
steady at 87Xe and closed at : j e. The long
futures closed : October , 3stu ; December ,

spite the heaviness in wheat prices were

buying short ribs through brokers , the higher
prices for hogs and corn , caused holders to

Into covering ; anil , although outside prices
were not maintained , the closing sales were
at a net advance over Saturday's close of "Kc
on lard and 13Kc on short ribs. September
lard hold at 30.7U(3fl.75 ( ; , and closed at 0.70.
September ribs opened at $8.1.1 , sold at
8H.l'J } , up to 8H.22K , and closed with sellers
at that price. Pork was slow and light tran
sactions were made at lower prices.

of fat cattle , making an advance of tully 30c
on the late depression. A lot of stlllers sold
at 84.20 , against 93.95 on Thursday last ,
style , weight and quality the same. On some
grades of natives the advance Is equal to 4Uc.
The highest price this forenoon was 91.43
for a small lot of grade Hereford's. The
great advance la on that grade of cattle that
last week bold at S3.50@IH.75. Native
butchers' stock Is scarce and higher. Tcxans
ruled about steady. The number on sale
was about 3r > oo , which was equal to keeping
prices do wn to last week's range. The stockcr
and feeder trade was slow , with but few on
sale , not In sulllclent number to make a mar
ket. Shipping steers , 1HM ) to 1500 Ibs. 3.75 < a

In the ballot and It would make a powerful

until the finish , when the last sales were nt

as good as on Saturday , so that the advanci
