( > -day , and later futures Improved Tlicruva.i plenty of bull talk In circulation , Out nftcr all tliettttcngth of the market WAS due to the hiillhhne.s.s developed In tlio corn more than to anything else. The withering heat of thu past fortnight came too Into In the day to ulfect winter wheat , and the IIIIDICS * Blon prevails In usually well Informed trade circled that despite reports from large areas In the northwest of daiihigo to crops , the yield of sprint ; wheat will not iall very lur below the average of recent years. Advices from tlio treat surliif ' , wheat producing val ley are less discounting than ono misfit Imagine from reading state ments of drought Injury. The two days receipts of new winter wheat at Toledo and tit. l.ouis looted up nearly 500 , 000 bushels. Now wheat has been coming In very fast and an enormous through expoit movement was heiiuii last week. The visible supply only elect enscd 1'JTO.OOO bushels , leaving the total stocks In sU-ht : ! 1,017,000 bushels. There may bo a decrease In stocks this week , but it is doubtful. August wheat opened at 70Jc. advanced to 70 CUX < . ' , do- cllncd to TUJ.iQSW.iC . , advanced to 0c , and closed Ht 70 ! c. September opened at 7'JI4C , sold up to 7JKCWJc , receded ( ij'fc , recov ered to TVJXc. und closed then1. October ranged 74J4i4Vc ( , and closed at the top. Very little business on foielgn account - count was iloiii' , und tha lake engagements for the dn > only aggregated 15OUO ! ! bushels. .Rail.shipments to the interior tooted up to qulto an extrusive total. Only a moderate business was done in thu pit. Thu foieisn markets \\ere quoted dull nnd unchanged. Corn attracted moru attention than wheat and an advance ot % ( rflKc was established. 1'rivnto advices of great damage- the ctop were received In overwhelming abundance. Thu feature of the day's trading was thtt In creased activity In the more defeired deliv eries , May In particular springing Into sudden popularity. The transactions In thu pit were very heavy in the aggregate. The public is taking hold o ? corn with a vim , purchasing without much regard to posi tion. The crowd who havu been working thu bull Bide of the deal lately took advantage of this popular demand to ( .ell out their August nnd September on a risinir and buoy nnt market , and to take hold of May , which scored an advance of Vic , while August was ascending thu scale , ' < e und September le. October made a gain of l c. Some ot the heavy local operators aru evidently caught short of the maiket and they hammered vig orously nt every appearance ot sott spots. This caused rapid and sharp fluctuation , but ( lid not prevent the maiket trom closing strong nt practically thu outside ligmes ot the ( lay. August opened ut iiT c , ranged B'KfS.'ls.'ftc , nnd closed at : ; Sc. September ranged ; CX $ ! . and closed ut the top. Oc tober ranged SS'rfQil'J'Vc und left elf nt the top. May closed atH c. On Saturday it closed at : ? Jc. There was n steady and rather linn market for oats uaily , but us theio was no demand of consequence thu market ruled quiet and tame dining the gieater part ot the day , nnd towards the close , an easier tone was devel oped. Thu last named arti cle sold sparingly nt $12.00 tor Jmuiary. and wns quoted at SU.50 bld for the year and C17.00 for cash. Short ribs aveiaged a trillc stronger than on Satur day , but there was no sueclal feature In the day'8 trading and the closings showed an ad vance of only 2K < - ' < In lard the movement was quite active. New York as well local buyers took hold with more than ordinary freedom , and for August prices ranged at 80.G7 > < < ftSO.SO , for September at SG.77X < < i:8ri.bOffliri.h7H' : ; . and for October at 8fi.KUj5SO.VJH. closing for Ihn three months Indicated at Sfl.WK.
