[ Special Ti'lc rnin to tlio HII : : . | Tliu wheat market was very dull to-day , anil prices averaged lower. Trade lit Dtlll nervous from tin ; Directs of tlio panic , and tli'TU la as yet small disposition among oper ators to branch out. Tlio sudden burst of activity In cash wheat observable Immedi ately nftcr tlio collapse has Riven place to a ijiileter Icellnp , though considerable IsbeltiK done , and the advance In ocean freUht has tended to check new business to a limited decree , liut enough \\licat will leave Chicago cage to enable the now crowded elevators to handleirraln that Is received lioic , and In a short period everything will bo runnlnc smoothly in the accustomed channel. The nvcra o declinu In prices In this market up to 1 o'clock was l O'Jo. The best prlceu were obtainable at or soon after theopcnlnir , when Juno was quoted at Tl c , July at T r u , Anirnst ntJJ ' , September at 7G > ; c and De cember at bOXc. There was only a limited demand , and as the olferliigs were liberal , tlio market steadily settled. A Rood deal of property held since tlio reaction for a more lavorablo market came out , and the bears were operating with considerable nerve. The market having no sulid snppoit , pave away , and the lower price ? cot tlio weaker the situation looked. The factor of tlio jrreatest weakness was an apparently well grounded report that carriers were selling out their wheat , the banks evincing a disposition to call their loans. The bulk of olfurniKs of Juno nnd July \\eie irenerally bupposed to be for the account of the carriers and banks , but as inquiry was limited It was not found possible to dispose ) of very heavy lines on the decline. Tlio local stocks decic.ised durlni ; the week about three quarters of a million bushels , hclni : now nearly 17XXJOU ( ) ( bushels , and tlio bears are operating on the theory that these stocks will prove an Influential menace to the mar ket until they are worked down to a smaller aKKrruato. The outside markets arc weak and lower In sympathy with Chicago , nnd cables quote the loielgn markets as inactive. From tlio lipires above nlveti , tlm decline was only cheeked by occasional mild lallies , und the 1 o'clock riuijic was close to the bottom tom quotations , being 70 } ic for June. Tic for .Inly. 73j c tor AtiKiist , and 74c tor IJcptenibcr. The depreciation was greater in September than any other month , beinir u lull iic. The market was not strong at any lime. Reports of rain In the west , " 121 points In Iowa , " and lower prices for wheat , hail u weakening effect on corn to-day , and during the rcKtdar session there was a drop of % @ % c. In all lutiues. A falrlv tcood trade was witnessed and In early dealings theio was quite nee selling of Sojitemberand Octo ber on country orders. Oats wore only moderately active and the speculative otlerlnes were laigcly Increased owing to the change In the weather condi tions. Prices were weak and lower , Juno and July oats showing a lni'ak of Kc , and August and September of > .fc. At 1 o'clock ,111110 WAR ( juotcd at ! \'c-Julv and Soptom- bt-r at iilXc , and Aujriibt at U5 > c. Provision tiades opened weak In a slow manner. The number present In the pit was quite ) large , but there was little or no dispost- to do anything , and n qulot fool- ins held full possession. The day's business , In fact , barely reached moderate volume , and barring a strong undertone the market was practically featureless , hard averaged and closed a trifle under Saturday's prices , but In short ribs them was no change. 1'ork was held steady nt sQ'-'J.OO ! for cash and Juno. Holders of the iiroduct were Inclined to take a strong view of tlio .situation nnd were In no wl.se disheartened over thu lim ited character of trading. AITKUNOON JKSSION. The wheat market gave way on the late board and sold down to a lower level than has yet been reached , again breaking the rec ord of twonty-livfl yeais. Theie seemed to bo no cause lor the break beyond the gener ally accepted theorj that thn oanks were calling their wheat loans , thus throwing n great load of cash property on a weak and leltictant tnarket. The shorts were the prin cipal buyers on the nfteruoon board. Tlieio was no special excitement. Wheat was de moralized ; June sold from B.IC to UbXc , clos ing at OSUc ; July sold early at 71c , fell to 70'tfc ' , closing at 70Vc ; August onencd at WJic , fell to 75 @t2/c , closing at 7v5Jc ; September fell from 74xc to74c , closing at 74'iC. Corn was weaker ; Juno closed about : t5Jf@5Kc : ! , July Sfl'fc bid. Au gust 88 , 0 bid , September : iUVu bid. Oats were easier ; June about - " > , ' < c.
