opened with a linn tone and transactions to a
fair extent. The weakness cabled from Lon
don stood In the way of a substantial rally ,
and the bears made a vigorous effort to work
prices down. I3eforo noon , comparing Lon
don's latest prices with yesterday's close ,
they were elf K per cent on Union Pacific , X
on Louisville & Nushvlllo and Kansas &
Texas , H on Krlo and K on Kcadlnir. Do fore
the above como In , an advance of K@ per
cent had been reported from London , which
sustained the market on this side , but with
out response to thn advance. The advance
tn the money rate yesterday afternoon , fol
lowing the coffee collapse nnd the failures of
three largo speculators , brought out free of
ferings of funds and the money market Is
easy again to-day at } { ® per cent. At the
end of an hour the general situation ap
peared to be that tho" loaders wore keeping
aloof from speculators , leaving the business
to professionals who ore satisfied with small
prolits and change their position at every
opportunity to secure a little advantage. A
part of the weakness In stocks was attributed
to the effect of the decline of 5o in colfee In
New York and the break In wheat at Ohlcaco
to-day. Nervous dealers fear that stocks
may bo the next to rattle down. The talk about
loaders was that ( .lould will become active
as soon as his health is restored , that decree
Could appears confident ot higher prices ,
and that Caramack has covered some of his
shorts and Is In favor of an upward turn.
Money was loaned on cell yesterday as hlif h
as 10 per cent about the delivery hour. Con-
orratlvo brokers 'thought this was unwar
ranted nnd A part of the bear manipulation ,
because the usual rates prevailed in the
morning and airaln at the close of business.
The continued heavy Importations lead to
bear predictions that large shipments of gold
will bo required this summer to equttlUe the

Therecoiptsof cattle to-day were heavy ,
The market opened slow and dull , and al
though a good many cattle chanced hands , It
was drairglntt all day. The market was
about lOc lower , owing to the decline in
eastern market * . Good , hundy fat cattle are
in fair request and are holding up bettor than
other grades. The market is still high In
proportion to other markets ,
There was a very liberal run of hoes to-day.
The market opened tairlv active and , while a
few of the lirst bids were made at about
steady prices , the general market opened at
an advance of 5o over yesteiday. There was
a good demand and the buyers appeared
anxious to pick up as many loads as possible.
The bulk of the hogs were sold early in the
day , but as there was a Rood many late ar-
ri vals.and the market was strung out until thn
middle of the afternoon. There were eight
loads held over that came in late.

marketed forty head otl',125 Ib range cows ,
that had been fed at Pllger , at $2.05.
Cattle that were sent torward the last of
last week , to Chicago , without an exception
netted the owners less than had they been
bold here.
Frank Sanders , a heavy shipper to these
yards , was In witb thiee loads of cattle
shipped from St. Pauland Elba. Forty-three
head averaued 122U and sold at 84.10.
A telegram was received trom Chicago by
a commission linn , thut a bunch of
cattle , for which $4.10 had been ollcred here ,
had just been sold in Chicago at 84.15.
James W. Page , a well known citizen and
horseman of Cheyenne , stopped at tbe yards
with livu line hores. Among them was
Ewlng , with a record of 21 } ; also MrCleod ,
that is going to the Stillwater race and tins a
record of 27KMr. . Page is on old friend of
George S. Brown's
Mr. Crawford , manager of Beckwitb it
Quinn's establishment at Grand island ,
stopped at the yards on his return from
Chicago , where ho had been with cattle , lie
says they did not treat him very well in
Chicago and that he could have done lully as
