A letter to the Plnladolphia Press from
New Vork contains the following : > ' S.
Oakford , a incinbur of one of the oldest
families of Philadelphia , whoso ancestor
came over with William I'cnn , was para
lysed on May 13 , at his lodging on Wcs
Thirty-third street , this city , and last
Sunday liu was taken to the Roosevelt
hospltitl , and now he Is in u dying condi
tion in a charity ward of that institution.
The writer , who has boon in the habit
of seeing him every day at the Lorraine
library , having missed him for several
days , went to his lodgings to inquire for
him , and there ascertained the above
faut.

charity hospital.

A tew head changed hands at about steady
prices.
The receipts were very liberal for the hst
day of the WCBK. The nmtket opi-ned with
a vt'iy strong demand and at an advance of
fiiflOc ( over yesterday. Thu demand was
such and the receipts not bolnir heavy , Unit
thu market was very excited and advanced

some instances loads were sold at an advance

at a very early hour.
