closings the break was : ) ! fc for Juno and 1@
l/c } for July and later months. The decline
was so rapid and thu sentiment of the crowd
bo very unanimous that nobody succeeded tn
gcttins rid of any very great quantity on the
break. Sellers wcio numerous and buyers
Bcarco. As the price approached the boXtom ,
however , the lalter Incieascd In numbers and
strength , and the volume of trading became
lar.c. Transactions In July multiplied and
a great amount of property changed hands.
A reaction less sharp , but quite decided , fol
lowed the slump. June was carried bacK to
02c , July to fcCc , August to 82Xc and Septem
ber to b2Yc. Thereatter , until the cud of thu
Ionic session , the deliveries following Juno
were fairly steady but the undertone wus
wrak , and nt 1 o'clock thu quotations were
about midway between extremes , and the
prevailing bcntlmcnt among operators and
observers was ono of chaotic Indecision , In
thu aggregate thu volume of business done
during the long session was very heavy. The
fluctuations In June were sharper and mnre
frequent than In later months , and in this case
the agitation was the greatest wheietheio was
the least action , fortherc was a limited trade
In Juno. Thu price changes during the last

belief that the cllquo had bought a largo linn
for July delivery , but tlicro was no direct

sidetracks by the latest estimate.
There was a llttlo more doing In corn to
day , speculation being rather larger than
noted yesterday , but thu general tone was
ono of weakness , Business was mainly of n
local scalping character and thv country or
ders received wuro generally from parties
who wuro desirous of covering their short
bales of July and selling longer futures
against corn In crib. The opening prices were
fractionally lower than yestordnj's closing ,
but during the llrst hour the market displayed
temporary Htrcngth , July Improving trom
'jfJQWtyc on the split to 'JOjfdSD fe , and
August from 40c to 40c. This was the
top. Throughout the remainder of the ses
sion the tendency was downward , and at 1
o'clock there was an easy closing at 37c for
Juno , S'J c for July , 40c for August , and
40jo for September , making a decline of
Uats for this and next month's delivery
weie in very good demand and stronger ,
Juno closing at sifl/tf or % r higher. Now corn
futures , on the other-hand , were offered moro
freely and ruled weak , August and Septem
ber resting at 25 % ( < c2Gc on the split atl
o'clock. July opened at 20Wc , sold to 27fc ,
and closed at 2G2GJfc.
In the provision market the Improvement
witnessed yesterday was moie than sus
tained. In tlio active lines-lard and short
ribs short ribs attracted tlio principal atten
tion , though In lard trading for forward dn-
llvury exhibited fair freedom. Front the
start short ribs were particularly active.
Parties who hud unloaded or sold short on
the Florida yellow fever scare were again
urgent and liberal buyers , and higher prices
prevailed , the 1 o'clock closings showing an
4 actual udvanco of lOc. Lard was strounly
T held and rested at an appreciation of 2c. In
these articles the aetlvo deliveries were July ,
August and September , with a fair move
ment tn October lard. Pork was held flrtnly
at $23.00 for June delivery.

day , but In addition to the fresh receipts
there wore a number of loads that had been
leftover from tlio day before , 'lliercwas
verj little change tn the market , cattle sell
ing about the same as yesterday. A good
ttmtiv cattle changed hands before the mar
ket closed , although the market was a little
slow. _

although the receipts arc still heavy. In ad
dition to the fre ti receipts there wrio 4.M )
stale receipts , making a total of over fi.GOO on
thu market. The market was delayed some
what In the inotnliiK on account of the num
ber of hogs which had tjeen left In thu yards
by the packers nnd which Impeded the 1111-
lo.idlnz of thu frch arrivals. Them was a
good demand nnd everything was sold before
the mnrkPt closed , at prices about steady with
yesterday's close.

shipper to this market , was In looking over
the market.
H. O. Urnmaur , St. Paul , manager of the
Oskosh cattle comprny , was among the visi
tors at the yards.
Mr. Anthony , Iowa City , la. , came In with
two loads of high bred feeders. It Is his lirst
trip to these yards.
A. W. Beahm , of the firm of Trekcll &
Beahm , Cortland , an old shipper to these
yards , was In ana marketed a load of hogs.
Slhppera are generally well satisfied with
the way In which the hog market has held up
during the heavy run of the past few days.
Mr. Fall , of Fall & Spencer , Silver City ,
la. , stopped off at the yards on tils return
from Kansas , where he has been looking at
land. He is a heavy shipper hero.
