linens compared with Saturday. The Juno
shorts wcro anxious inquirers for wheat and
pushed the prlco up to Ul c , nt which point
ono of Uio cliiuio IIOUSM offered a consider
able line and the market dropped back > c.
Henewed demands to co\cr shorts and Ihu
conlemporaneous withdrawal of the clique
house thnt had boon selling caused the > price
to move up to Uljfc. Counsolman was nunied
as a big buyer on thu advance , and for thnt
matter ho was a steady buyer through tlio
whole long Rpsslon. As the lop was approached
preached Uio "Tailors" look alarm at reports
that Armour was going lo deliver 2,000,000
bushels of wheat on Juno contracls tomorrow
row and began unloading They found a
ready market for their property In the shorlg ,
but values , nevertheless , cased oil materially ,
JnnegoUigtoSMc. The quote prlco was sub
sequently 9-t'gc , but at 1 o'clock It was We.
The market was dull and featureless as well
as weak toward thu close. July setth'd fioin

87 e , and then declined steadily to

the long session at 8fic. August
lluctuated between 84c and Wc , aud Sep

trade In bolh deliveries. Only n moderate
business was transacted In July. The visible
stalemunt , which gives a decrease of 760.000
Instead of the Increase of 1,000,000 counted
on by the bears as late as last Salurday ,
caused Homethint ? akin to a sensation.
Corn opened linn , and in pvly dealings
the Hpcculatlvo market showed Increased
strength , In sympathy with the morning's
bulge In wheat. Hut after an upward spurt
< ' # ( ac , nnd a good demand from the
shorts for the lirst halt hour or so , there was
n change in the local sentiment , and under
heavy selling of Juno by Kgglcston , and of
July by Jioam , prices rapidly weakened.
Juno corn receded from 3Uc to SWe , July
fiom 40 > o to 3W@39o , and August from
41cto4u'Thn first sales of July were at
3Wc , or Saturday's closing price , nnd at 1
o'clock the quotations stood : June 38&c ,
July ! i9 > c , August 40Xc. September 41c.
1 his was a plump ; Vc under Saturday's latest
bids. The heaviest trading was when July
corn was selling at a round 40c and after
the prlco had declined to about SUVc. Coun
try orders to-day were mostly buying to
coyer July and selling of the more deferred
deliveries. After the down-turn was started
by free selling of the parlies named , nnd
others , the weakness was Intensified by the
decline In wheat and an advance of , ' c In
lake freights.
Oats were dull and weak In a speculative
way , leading futures showing a decline dur
ing the regular session of ( ( Xc , Juno aud
July showing the greatest weakness.
In the provision pit there was a little more
than ordinary stir. Trading was perhaps
Hlowcr than might be expected after the pro-
traded holiday rest , yet there was consider
able Interest in the active lines lard and
short ribs. There was enough doing from
the start to make the market command alien-
tlon. 'Iradlng , however , appeared to be
mainly between the professionals , and as the
Horlda yellow fever reports made the old
bulls timid and recent buyers anxious to un
load some of their holdings , the offerings
after a brief bulge In the morning were ex >
ccsslve. tor the last halt or more of the ses
sinn the feeling was raster and the bear tilde
had the call , hence prices ruled lower , and ,
as compared with Saturday's closings , lurt
at 1 o'clock showed a decline of 5c and short
ribs of 7Ko. In these articles Julv , August
and September were the active deliveries.
1'ork was Inactive , being quoted at 9-13.00 for
cash and June.

shipping trade there was a fair demand a

last week. About half the number of fres
cattle to-day were Texans. Such as tillec

sold equally as well as yesterday and fully a
high as at the close last week. Common half

butchers' stock was the same as last week.
The stocker and feeder trade ruled dull
There wore a largo number of veal calves on

The run of cattle was liberal and 300 head
In excess of yesterday's receipts. The mar
ket opened at prices about steady with yes
terday , but eased off later in the day and
olvsed about lOc lower. The demand was
mostly for handy native steers , w bile corn-
fed westerns were neglected.
Hog * .
The run of hois was unusually heavy.
The market opened active at a decline of
about 5o , but as the later trains came In It
declined another 5e and closed lOo lower
than yesterday. The bulk of the ho s sold
out early , but on account of a good many
late arrivals the market was prolonged
through the greater part of the day. In spite
ot the- heavy receipts the market held up well
, and very few were toft over.
