r THE OMAHA . DAILY BflEr FRIDAY , MAY 20. 1887. T11E COT IN GRAIN RATES , r The Most Sorions Thing that Haa Yet Happened to the Wheat Deal. A WEAK OPENING CHRONICLED. More Interest nml lilfo Displayed In the Provision I'll Cattle 1'rlcca Lower General Market Quotations. CHICAGO PltOBUCB MARKRT. CIIICAOO , May 10. [ Special Telegram to the UIK. : | The most serious thing yet that Ims happened to the wheat deal Is the cut In Kraln rules from Minneapolis to 7J c per 100. There nro nearly 7.000,000 bushels of wheat there and \vltli freight ralo like this that would brlnt ; all down hero for a little over 4c a bushel. A vast dual of It l.s bound to come. A bin jag of wheat sold for Juno ycsteiday by ono operator was Minneapolis grain. With the price at bOa there waste clear prollt In It. lint there has , It Is claimed by the bears , very recently been other news made which puts upon manipulators the necessity cither of at once putting on the screws or of letting the price down to a point where Minneapolis and Ditlutli wheat cannot bo told heio at such a big profit for June. The most Important bit of gossip relates to ono of the careful business houses which Is claimed to bo in bad temper with Its principles because Its advlco has not been taken. This house urged that the advance be tempo rarily stopped for Juno at 8Cc until stir- rounding markets had become accustomed jr to the price and until a good deal of cash wheat had been worked on" to the seaboard. This advlco was not taken , and now It Is said the commission 11 rm demands that their account bo taken elsewhere. It Is claimed to bo a fact that It was offered to another house yesterday , but was refused on the terms of fered. Wheat opened weak this morning at 87Jfo for June , B5)fc ) for July , a drop of K@Xc from yesterday. Juno sold elf rapidly to tftk'c. and considerable long wheat held by "Tallers1' cninn out on the decline. The clUjuodld not make a move until tno price touched 6 } { c , at which point Kershaw c-uno In and swept the deck , as traders put It , tak- Inirs all offerings and bidding the market up sharply. At 87W@b7c ho drew out and Irwln ( Ireun & Oo. and Ktnenfolt A Co. became - came buyers. HetwepnSTJ.f and t > 3c Kershaw took acoiihldorHblu line and the price shot tip to 88l , { . These lluctuatlons occurred the lirst halt hour or so of the BPsslon. At no time from then to 1 o'clock did the prlco get below 83c. The bands on the Indicator pointed to 88Xc and 88)c ) , with little doing In the pit. Tlio Increased inter est In July wasono of the features of trading , and that month was considerably stronger than June , the dllferenco narrowing ? fc as compared with yesterday. The 1 oclocte ran ne was 88 > { c for June , H6 > ( c for July and Ko for August. This shows a slight Im- provemant In Juno and a gain of Xc in July. Corn was the weakest at tno opening to day , Influenced by the carlv depression In wheat and under fren sales for July by a prominent operator. Ho put out In the iiolchboihood of JKW.OOO bushels at 40Jc. All futures opened fractionally under yester day's closing figures , but the market soon Hteadlcd , then grow stronger , and during the remainder of the long session presented a linn undertone , everything considered , the 1 o'clock closings being a shade better. In fact , while there was more doing than yesterday , speculative tradIng - Ing fell under tliu avoraito volume and lluctn- ntlons wore narrow. Juno opened at roc > , nold at 30ttcthcn off to S'Jcand back to $ ' . ) % c , July Improving from 40c to 41(5MlVc. ( tioth closed at outside quotations. The bulls In corn are now banking on a short crop of hay to help them on to fame and fortune by and by. They figure that hay at $14 per ton ( the present market prices of upland prairie hay ) , IB higher than a to of 38-cent corn , and say that this condition of things cannot oxlst. Dealers In hay report that the outlook Is for short crop of that staple. Oats continue to rule weak In the specula tive market under liberal receipts and free offerings by tired holders. The bears aio predicting 25c for July oats. There was a fair trade to-dav and futures declined At 1 o'clock J uno was quoted at SOMO and Julyat27Kc. In the provision market there was a little ruoro Interest and life than yesterday. Early In the morning , when the feeling was de pressed by unexpected largo receipts of hogs , an encouraginic disposition was displayed , nnd for a brief period lard and short ribs wore active. As the day advanced , however , and prices moved up sharply under the de mand , trading tell off , and when the morn urgent buyers supplied their wants the old dullness assumed control. During the last half of the day business dragged In a provok ing manner and prices eased off , losing a portion of the morning improvement , which amounts to 5C > i7Xc on lard and IfXftlTH'c on short ribs. Still the 1 o'clock closing for these articles wore 3X@5c better than last night's quotations. June. July and August were as usual favorite deliveries , with July receiving the principal attention. 1'ork was quoted for cash , May and Juno at 821.00 ® B1.50 , with tales for Juno at the two prices named. AKTKIINOON SESSION. Wheat was easier ; J une8S , ' c , Julytetfc , August 83Xc. Corn was easy ; JuneUOMc. July 40 c bid. Oats were steady ; June 30) c bid. 1'ork was quoted at 831.50 for cash , May and June. Lard was strong and closed at S0.07U for May , $0.70 for Juno , S0.77 } for July. Snort ribs advanced 5e ; May closed at 87. 15 , J uno at 87.17X , and July atST.SO. CHICAGO LIVE STOCK. CHICAGO , May 19. [ Special Telegram to the UEB.I CATTI.K. It Is almost needless to say prices were lower when It Is noted there were 12,000 fresh receipts , and perhaps 1,000 or more carried over last night , making fully 13,000 fat cattle on sale , and all good. Then add to this that tnero Is an Increase of 5,000 as compared with the same time last week , when there was also a liberal run. How much lower than yesterday It was not easy to set at The first cut of standard stock was the sale of a lot of sutlers at S4.00 , against 84.70 yesterday , and a better quality to-day. JUut this 10 cent decline was on as good a lot of cattle as there was in the pens , hence It would tollow that undeslroable yet useful stock would sell 15g20c. ( lower , and the general 'Impression was that In some cases drops would bo equal to 25c. before the present heavy t upply would bo worked off. Texans wore In liberal supply and a shade lower. Native butchers' stock was steady. Cannlnor stock was slow , with a slight down turn. The stocker and feeder trade remains S'J.t > 0@ .15 ; cows , bulls nnil pilxed , S'J.IW ® aiO ; rexos grftssera , ? 2.W@3.40 ; corn-fed , 83.HX34.8.5. ( llous Triulo opened about n nickel lower In all divisions uxccpt Kock island , and their values were fully as strong as yester- tordny , but later on prices became more even and toward the close prices ruled nearly as high an at any ttmo yesterday. The pres ence of buyers for the Allerton packing com pany thnt resumed business yesterday , hail a Kood deal to no with keeping prices as steady as they wern. Common mixed may be quoted at 84.70 4.60 ; best mixed , S4.SW4.tt : butcher weights nnd best heavy , sr > .0 < Xj5.iO ; light weight , SUO4.50 ; Yorkers , S4.bO@4.b5. FINANCIAL. NEW YOKK , May 10. The sentiment ot the street to-day was adverse to any further ad vance. The free realisations and gales for short account and vigorous hammering by the bears brought about a moderate reaction throughout the entire list. In the opening most stocks showed slight advances over last evening's close. Adrlvd was made at the list Immediately and quotations were de pressed fraction J , raniclng up to 5f per cent in the first half hour. A rally occurred after that time , In which Western Union was prominent , but considerable Irregularity was developed and transactions became smaller In volume. The tone , however , was gener f ally Heavy until after 13 o'clock , wheu a re action occurred , which , however , was meas ured by small fractions. ID the last hour the decline was renewed with force and wai only checked at the close , which was fairly active , but heavy at near ( he lowest of the day.
