tlic Bri : . | Wheat was excited and higher
to-day. The market was reinar kablo for the
uearclty of "soft spots. " The reactions wcro
few and Inconsequential , every halt being
made nt a point n little higher tlian the one
lust preceding. The clique houses appar
ently did very little , their open elfoits beliii ;
dUcctcd mainly to bids \\hoio moral support
seemed to be necessary and where bidding
would bo tbo lenst likely to result in the ac
cumulation ol heavy additions to the present
holdlncs. The Initial trades In Juno were at
b7'fsi ' % an advance of , ' < c as compared \\lth
.Saturday's close. The crowd \\hlch wont
home Saturday short were ncnotm at the ap
pearance of things. They waited for wheat
to bo ollerod , but the olfcrlnss were small.
This made the shorts still more anxious.
They began bidding cautiously. The clique
brokers chipped In about the same time.
Then the shorts grew anxious nnd thn tun
bctran. The market advanced rapidly to
% , halting once at B7 ; < c. Jlero again the
clique- brokers \\ero Ireo bidders and azaln
the ciowd took the market away from them.
From fcS c there was a decline to SK © ' .
The next bulge carried the price to b > c
nnd the next one to 8Sc. The price worked
back to bS\'c , wheie It rested all o'clock , with
July quoted nt b-V c , Auuist nt Sl'/iUSPtfc
nnd September nt Slc ! , At the top price
Juno was IJjfo higher than Saturday's last
pi Ice , nnd nt 1 o'clock I3 c hlglicr. The
greatest Improvement in July was J@J ( < c ,
nnd In August Jfc. Tlio clement that was
selling the freest on the advance dining the
last three days of the last week \vas most
anxiously bti > lng to-day. The shorts , blir
nnd little , were sceinliiL-ly pretty much all
of thn hamo mind , anil their purchases durn ! <
the lirst hour or two of trading were veiy
latgj in tlio aggregate. Tliey were given no
rest Iiom the Incessant climblnL' . The ex
ports fiom Atlantic ports last week footed up
to 2fO,000 bushels ( wheat nnd Hour ) , and
tlio visible supply for tlio same- time shows a
uoiiletion of nearly UKJO.OOO bushels.
Corn iccovcred n little today from the de
pressions witnessed toward the closeof last
week , and there was an advance during the
long session of Kfe c in all futures. Im
mediately after the opening the market dis
played n he.wy tone and bagged a little , Juno
belling elf to : J/c and July to 40X@40c to
gether. This was > 4'/'oC below batur-
day'a closings and the weakness
was attributed to the belief generally
entertained that the visible was not , at tbo
very outside , going to show inoro than a half
million decrease , and that the receipts this
week would be considerably larger than wo
have been getting of late. When the visible
supply figures came out , nnd a decrease of
over lbOU,000 bushels was announced , the
Hhorts at once begnn to covei frcolv , and
buying from this quaitcr nnd tno effort in
other quarters to bull tho'markct sent prices
np nearly Ic trom the bottom. Junnadvanced
from : ibc to : ! U < c and closed at l X 23'J c nt
1 o'clock , and July rested nt 41lb a-.ued , after
ranging from 10 0ldJ < c , on the split to41J c.
.May corn was tyfl&flXe under July and
August nt IVu premium. A liberal specu
lative business was transacted and theiu was
a lalrly steady closing to trade.
Oats wore extremely dull In the way of
speculation at substantially unchanged
i Ices , the attention ot traders being directed
to other articles. Seller June closed nt
27Ve. and July closed nt 2S > .fc , alter selling
nt UStgUb c. August wus a shade easier ,
closing atf > % c.
The provision market was stronger. In
lard nnd short ribs tlio opening sales were
Hindu u little under Saturday's closings , but
Undo In both strengthened under good short
demand as tlio day prosressed , nnd higher
prices prevailed. In lard the advances
actually established , as shown by the i
o'clock nnotatlnns , were 7 } S10c , and in
bhort ribs , 10@l2Xe. 1'ork was held steady
nt S21.00 for cash and near deliveries. The
early depression In lard and slioi t ribs was
duo to the unexpectedly large receipts ot
) ioi8 ; , and the Improvement later to the buyIng -
Ing of the shorts quite a number of whom
manifested considerable anxiety to close or
cover trades showing a profit. Outside or
ders , speculative and otherwise , were lim
ited , und fjoneial trading in tlio different
lines were slow and unsatisfactory. June ,
July and August were the favorite deliv-
flies.

NEW YOUK , May 10. ( Special Telegra
to the UKK.I STOCKS. The stock maik
showed no signs of weakening to-day. C
the contrary most of the active speclaltn

clally strong and the pool which has bee
operating In them gave out very contldei
tlnlly the information that there was still
big advance In prospect. Hocking Valley r
traded a good deal ot attention and was , c
the whole , the most active on the list. Tl
story was that some kind of a settlement lit
been effected with Judge Hurko whereby ei
tain securities claimed to have been lssu <
illegally were to be returned to the trcaiu
of the company. On the bulge , however ,
good deal of long stock came on the mnrki

good buying orders at a shade under t
market. Pullman made another sharp t

stocks were strong and hither. Itock Isla
moved up 2 per cent on the story that It w

Cottonseed oil broke about 1 per cent on t

that a riot was In progress at Chicago. There
Was a sharp drop In Manitoba , Pullman , and
Hocking Valley. The rest of the list , how
ever , held very steady , and just before the
close the buying was good endued to rnllr
the whole market. Cottonseed oil regained
all of the early decline , closing 1 per cent

reported for the second week in May showed
an encouraging Increase. Itock Island
made a sensational gain of 3 per cent and
the Vanderbllts and grangers were all
