Tlio popular report is the Manhattan , 418 liroauwny , lludio A : Ycnnwlnu. In the district court to-day the case of Wilson vs the city will bo continued. K. Hicknian has been arrested and Dlaccd in the city jail churgcd with the larceny of hogs in Harrison county. Ilo . will probably lie taken there to-day. The sewer contracts will probably bo awarded to-night by the city council. The figures of the live bidders have all to bo tabulated and examined by the comnyUco who are ready to report. The contract for the building of the hotel at Lake Manawa will probably bo let to-day. The plans have boon ap proved and as teen as possible now the work will lie pushed to completion. It is understood that the Omaha Hewing - ing iifcMiciation Iris not > et acted upon the oiler made by the Council Hlulls Rowing association in regard to using the irrounds at Lake Manuvi ; ; upon which to build a boat-hou."e. The entertainment announced to bo civen by the young ladies' bible cl.isstof the Congrcgi'tiona' church was sadly in tcrfored with bv the storm hist Friday evening. It will be given to morrow ( Tuesday ) evening at the home of Mrs. Montgomery on 1 onrth struct. Remember the meeting of tho. Council ISlulls club to be held at Mueller's music house to-night at 8 o'clock. ' Every mo- fcsbioual and business man should'bo there possible , and the roll of member ship should be increased to the full num ber Some important business comes up to-night , and all members and those thinking of joining should bo present. It is more than probable that the resig nation of Mr. 1C K. Hart as president , of the Council Hlulls Uowmg association will not bo accepted by the cjuu , as that gentleman's only reason for withdrawing is that he expects to be absent from the city for eight or ten weeks during the season. 1 lie club r.o doubt will refuse to accent it and the vice president will probably bo called upon to act. Queer Hnilway Itnlcs. Since the Union Pacific has placed a man at the ferry cars to sell tickets in- Htead of allowing passengers to pay their faro after they had entered the cars , there has been more or less dissatisfac tion among horsemen anil others .in re gard to the new way of interpreting the following clauses which are printed upon the tickets. On the ticket appears : "Horses , mules and cattle must be accompanied by a man in charge who muiit hold proper transportation. No free passes with live Block in ferry cars. " This ticket is filled out by the ticket agent for any number of men , horses or cattle , anil 2"i cents each is charg"d for every man and every animal. Another ticket reads : "Good for one tripondatoof sale , Conned BUill's to Omaha , of one horse and rider. One- horse vehicle- ( loaded or emptyand ) driver or one extra horse- attach ed to ve hicle under fiaildlo or loose. " These tickets are suld for 35 cents each. Where the dllliculty occurs , If it may bo called .such is. that a niau leading a horse by tlto bridle is charged 00 cents for the two , while a man may lead H hor.M ) by the bridle , provided a saddle is upon the horao , and only bo charged 0 cents for the two. It is claimed that on the Omaha side of the river it makes no dill'eronco whether a horse is saddled or not , just so accom panied by one man , a charge of only 800 is made. A Bin : man asked the apcnt who stands nt the ferry cars if tiic above facts wore true , and he replied in the allirmativc , stating that construction was put upon it by his superior , Mr. Roberts , the agent. Mr. Roberts then explained that he could not sco how ho could follow instructions and do ditVerentiy unless ordered so bv the company. Ho know there was ii great deal of kicking but it could not bo helped. Wlfilo a BKE man was nt the depot two men with six horses went into the ferry cars and the wore charged an oven $3.00. They took up less room in the cars than two butrgics would have and they were charged $1.50 more tlian the buggies would have boon provided they each only had one occupant. Some of the tirms here dealing in horses and mules , and having much business on the Omaha side , find the dillerence greatly to their disadvantage , and they ' will hail with delight the completion o'f the new Broadway bridge. " Ho spoke ot the swiftness with which vents followed each other in the lives of ndhiduals and ot nations. The recent emoval of the remains of Abraham Lin coln brought back so vividly the startling 'vents which led to his dentil. The men imminent in that day , where were they unvV ( irant , ( Jarlield , Beecher , ( Jougli mil other had been also gathered into their last restmir places. Rapid as these cu'iits followed , and important as they lad been , yet there was the assur- uiee that they all worked togelher for good. 1'lecting as was nian'.s life , yet it was full of trouble. The sunniest life had shadows. The great trials of life made man better , however. Just as great drivewheels often went backward so as to eiul the other machinery for ward , so the loss of property , the death of dear ones , disappointments and sorrows rows , while seeming to turn tlio great drivowheels of life backwam , really pushed a man forward , nearer to heaven. In the course of the sermon Rev. Dr. Phelps told an incident it ; his own lite , as an illustration of iiow an overruling providence otton changed nian'.s plan- niiiir , and made events work together for good. After preaching ten years his health was poor , and all physicians anil friends urged him to give up. He was warned time and again that if he did not stop preaehmg he would drop dead in the pulpit. At last he decided that it was best to .stop. He decided to go to work at the carpenter Irado. He made all arrangements to do so , and the very day was .set. Instead of meeting his appoint ment logo to work , lie accepted an invi tation to meet an olii triciul , a brother minister , who had formerly been a dnu- tor. This friend convinced him that the other physicians had been > n error about his case. Ho showed him that he was sutlering from spinal trouble , and not from brain trouble , and advised him where ho could go to got relief. This incident changed his plans entirely. lie was helped physically , and went on preaching , gamiiig in health and strength. He believed that God had overruled his plins , and that ho had made all these things worK together for good. Drs. Ilanchett & Smith , ollico No , 12 Pearl st. Residence , 120 Fourth st. T reatment and Baths Given Ladies by Mrs. Dr Richards on Tuesday , Thursday & Saturday. Electricity is a remarkable naturalagcnt which has long been Known and utilised ns a remedy for diteaie and continued'experience has enlaced its sphere of useful ness and improved its appliances by which it is employed until its utility an. ! virtue has become second to no other known remedy , in the treatment of certain forms of disease. This agent ib employed here in all its most serviceable forms by the aid of large batteries , static machines , electric cabinet bath's , electric \\atei baths , the clcc- tiic chair and electrodes for treating all p.irtb of the body. We are piepared to do all that can be done \\ith tbe e great remedies. In cases of Rheumatism , Neuralgia , I'aralvsis , Spinal Irritation , Rectal Diseases , Nervous Diseases in femalch arising from Uterine disorders and many other chronic and subacute troubles , it stands at the head of all knoun remedies or methods cure. A thorough study of it for years and the successful treatment of hundreds of cabes , after all other remedies had fail ed , is snfllcient cxidence of its great \\ortb and perfectly satisfies us with its good effects on the diseased body. In the great hospitals and sanitarians of America and Europe , electricity is leading all other methods of treatment. In all leading colleges the professors aic teaching electricity as one of the potent remedies and a special chair ib appointed in many of tlictn. Many of the ablest physicians of all bchoolb are making a specialty of electricity to the exclusion of almost everything else. This great remedy has often fallen into disrepute by being recommended and used by peisons , and physic ans , perfectly ignorant of its properties and powers , who would as often ail\ise and use the wrong current as the right one or depend upon it in diseases for which it is not adopted. We are sure that when the people become educated in the use ol electricity for many diseases with which the body Is afllicted and find the great good therein , the incdicineb and patent righted nos trums upon which they now rely will grow old and dusty on the shelves. Electricity is nature's great remedy nnd to fully understand and skilfully apply it is our effort and aim in life.
