together by the failure of the piomlscd rain
to materialize. A wetting down In northern
California Saturday , however , broke the
price to K3 > 40 ami a pretty liberal fall at DCS
Molncs , and llcht ralnsover Iowa , Xebraska ,
northern Kansas and northern lexas made
the feeling so much easier this morning that
May sold under b.c. ! Commission iiuuscs
took no share In tdo trailing about the wheat
pit early. .Neither the clliiuo houses , nor
houses wlilcii operate for people outsldu of
tlio cliquG were doing anything up to the
time of the announcement of the visible sup
ply figures. Scalpers were doing the > ellln ? ,

early that the visible supply
figures on wheat were going
to be a disappointment. The decrease esti
mated last week was very largo and the ac
tual decrease for the same week a year ago

amount of wheat bought by the three clique

forty-seven dittercnt houses made answer to
inquiries. A gentleman who ran a little
oat deal oncu In this market says In that
deal ho was surprised to find 150 different
linns short to him. Jlo argues that If IM
linns were short on a petty oat deal , 300
houses would be short on a wheat corner.
The visible supply statement was a great
dampcnrr on the spirits of the bulls. Tbo In
crease In the visible supply was something
altogether unlocked for , and especially as
Ust year , when exports were small , the de
crease for the corresponding week
was 1,800,000 bushels. At the moment
of the greatest depression Knrshaw & Com
pany supported the market. Thn May option
was "pegged" at 82e and not allowed to get
lone under that liptire. The crowd also
believed that the visible supply figures had
been "monkeyed" at New York and that
they would have to bo corrected. Corn took
a xDurt at about noon on the falling otl In
receipts of car lots for Tuesday. These are
estimated at only 17.5 for to-morrow , against
over 1,000 last Tuesday. 1'oolp , Kent & Co.
were covering Sid Kent's short ribs
this morning , and Armour's brokers were

The most striking feature of the past week
In the produce inaikcls , was tlio light ic-
celpts of most kinds of country produce.
Butter has been so scarce that even the poor
grades bold readily nnd at
peed prices. K cs were nlso
in very light receipt and that fact , coupled
with the usual brisk demand just pluvious to
Knster , enabled dealers to partly advance the
market. In spite of the strong prices which
poultry has been biinglni ; in this market the
receipts have continued very light. Most
lines of produce remain steady at the prices
of a week ago.

BUTTKU Theio has been veiy little chanse
in the situation in the butter market since a
week ago. The receipts continue very light
and the supply falls short ot the demand.
The bulk of tne receipts Is very poor quality
and a considerable portion of the better
grades comes In such poor shape that It haste
to be sold at a disuhanta.e. There is an
occasional package of fancy butter that sells

Is making it uioic ditllcult to handle dressed
poultry to iulvantau't1 , commission men being
compelled to sell on arrival whether they get
their price or not. The receipts , however ,
of all kinds of poultry have been so Ik-lit
that most anything would sell quickly.
Choice fat chickens have sold quickly at
10@llc , and fitucy stock has brought even
more. By reason of the light receipts of
chickens , turkeys have been boiling fairly
well at He and iluclts at about the same piice.
Dressed poultry is practically out of season
and the present high prices are duo largely
to the scarcity ot llvo poultry.
LIVE I'OULTIIY There Is a good demand
for live poultry. Chickens are selling readily

POTATOES -There is still a largo supply on
hand and stocks arc moving rather slow on
t at account. There Is very little or no de
mand for car lots in bulk , and commission
healers are forced to store the receipts and
