Tuesday , April 5.
The receipts wore more than double what
ihoy were yesterday. The market opened
fitrong and fairly active at about yesterday's
tirices. Coed handy , fat cattle averaging
( rom 1,009 to 1,250 Ibs. were In the best de
mand and sold more readily than heavier
cattle. In some Instances such cattle sold
even stronger than yesterday. There" were
only 350 head of cattle lett unsold In thn
yards.

The receipts of hogs as compared with yes
terday show a gain of 1,000. The market
was active and stroncr. Everything in sold
early In the day. Four loads which came in
late were held over.

very light and the market Is cleared. There
Is a good demand for choice , sweet table
butter , but there Is very little coming that
can txi graded as such , and buyers have been
compelled to take the poorer grades. On ac
count of the scarcity of the choice grades
poor butter has sold more readily than usual
and at better prices. Dealers , however ,
must not expect to receive fancy prices for
common stock. Choice country , IbS'JOe ; fair

Koos At the present time the market may
be said to be devoid of any new features. 1'he
receipts continue heavy. There Is a good
city demand while the shippers are taking all
the surplus stock. The prevailing price is
lOc , A good many dealers are anticipating
lower prices when the inter-state commerce
law goes Into effect. The new law will
raise the rates between this point and the
Pacllie coast from SI.05 to 83.00. This will
tend to lower the market hero unless theie
should chance to be an advance In thn Cali
fornia markets , as shippers will require
wider margins on which to ship.

week has been cooler and there has been a
very good demand for dressed poultry. The
receipts , liowever , have been very lieht and
good prices have been obtained. Choice fat
