THE OMAHA DAILY BEE : THURSDAY , MARCH 31. 1887. WBEAT RECORDS A GAIN , The Belief Prevalent That the Clique Has Bold More Than It Bought. CORN RULES DULL BUT STEADY. The Dnllncs * In Short nibs ItclloTcri By an Increased Movement Cattle and Hoc * Weak and liower. CHICAGO rnonucE MARKET. CniCAoo , March 30.--Si | > eclal Telegram to tbe BEE. ] Wheat closed to-nlcbt lc higher than yesterday , yet there Is very little doubt but that the cllijuc sold a cieat deal luoic wheat to-day than It bought. There was all sorts of news to-day from all quarters but It happened that It was all bullish. New York is lighting and the bears are nuking a great BOO over the weakness of options , Initial tiades here were at about 7SU4'c for May and 805 < c for June. A disposition to sell was manifested at the beginning of business but this was not suflident to cause more than a momentary weakness. Spirited buying by liutchlnson and Keshaw started the crowd. The scaljx-rs who had been working the short side of the deal , took the alarm , but when they tried to lay In wheat they made the unpleasant discovery that there was less for sale than theie might be. This only In creased their anxiety , and under the influ ence of the demand from that source very largely values haidencd appreciably , May tolng toj SJ&c and June to fcl'4c , llutchln- son was a very strong buyer all the forenoon , but after the start upward was made , so- rallod , tbfl clique houses dropjted out. Toward the top they appealed as sellers. The crowd absorbed the offerings readily for a time , but values were soltened some what and vtormed elf i c. Later , however , the market Improved In tone , more steam was Injected Into the deal and May rapidly climbed to i > 3c. The aiUance was occasioned in a measure by the discovery that a clique house had been buying of the brokers while openly selling , and the word was parsed around that a combination was picking up two or three bushels for e\ery bushel sold Kershaw and privately Informed parties that fto-called clique brokers had sold live bushels for c\crv bushel bought. This confusion of Information only served to Increase the per plexity of the situation without In any man- iicr producinc weakness , and quotations at 1 p. m. were clo e to the top. The weather news cut something of a iigure in regulating values to-day. Reports from every section werr to the- effect that the meteorlogical con ditions were particularly trying to winter wheat A further advance In San Francisco leave color to the statements that the pros- beets In the interior of the wheat growing district nt California are very baa. Corn ruled dull and steady. Very little was done In oats. In the provision market the late dullness was relieved a little by the in creased movement in short ribs. In pork there was no public tradlnc whatever and In lard the Interest exhibited was restricted if anything more than yesterday. CHICAGO LIVE STOCK. CHICAGO , March 30. [ Special Telegram to the BF.E.I CATTLE. Kecelpts of beef cat tle , while not heavy , were ample. The gen eral market to-day was very dull and weak. Prices were lOc lower on the sales made and there were many lots ot good choice to heavy cattle which couldn't be sold at 15c decline. The demand for fat Texans Is fairly good. Some 719 Ib steers sold to-day at S3.03. There was a considerable volume of business done at S4.0034.40 for poor stockers to fancy steers. The general cow market was slow- but stead. , Hoes Rough and mixed were 5c lower and in many cases lOc olT and the market closed weak. The prices are about the same as one week ago and about 51.25 higher than one year ago. The market for packing and snipping was a slow one and prices on an average were fully 5c lower. Sales ran red at 85.55@5.U5 for ordinary to fancy. Heavv butcher pigs averaging 215 to 1235 Iba. sold at J6.72Ji < 2S.5- Yesterday's east shipments were the highest of the year. The eastern demand is falling off just now , partly on ac count of Lent , but because prices are high and eastern meat cutters are getting hogs nearer home cheaper than they can be had here. Prices for light weights are lOc lower than A week ace to-day. Pies and little mixed weights sold at$4.W@5.20 , with grades at 85.30@5.55. and choice selections , with butcher weight and singeing pig tops at 5.50 ( § 5.00. _ FINANCIAL. NEW YOKE , March SO.
