THE WAGON BRIDGE ASSURED The News of the Passage of the Bill Oatues the Bands to Play. UNCLE SAM'S JURYMEN. New ItcndliiK For the PiiWIe-Mtcr- ary ami .Mtulcul Treats The Hale ol l.nndH nnI lldlH. The ( Jliul Non-it. The news given in yesterday's Br.r. of Jio final passage of the wagon bridge bill , as amended , was received with much rejoicing. In real estate circles there was a renewal of activity , and a ircalden ! of frosli inquiry for investment. The band again mounted thu big wagon , and the streets were full of music. Everybody had some glad word of eon- giatulation to give his neighbor , and the isity seemed merry clear to the suburbs. No one doubted bill that the bill would ultimately pass , but there is nothing so cheers as a certainty taking the place of a hope based ever so strongly on pi o lia bilities. The work of construction will spcedilv follow , and prices of leal estrto and actual improvements feel the ell'ect of the announcement. There is a stronger confidence in this season's boom being permanent than ever before. The Turloy'N Golden Woildlng. Mr. and .Mrs. M. Turlcy yesterday quietly celebrated the fiftieth anniver sary of their wedding , at their home , No. 100 Turlcy'f. ( Jlen. The only relatives they have are Mr. J. Mueller , a son-in- law , and his two children , Mrs. Dr. O. H. Simons , of Leadville , who is now in Germany , and Arthur C. Mueller. of Omaha ; the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Turlcy. J. Mueller was the only relative who was able tn bo ptesont anil ho remembered Mr. Turloy by presenting him with a heavy , gold headed ebony cane , on which was engraved " " while IIP Sirs. graved "M. Turlcy , gave Tin-ley a largo beautiful basket of flow ers. ers.Mr. . Turlcy , who has been confined to his bed since December 1 , is recovering as fast aa possible for one " of hi" age , and is now able to Ml up about a quarter of the time. Ho was uom in Kentucky , as was also his cslimablo wife , ami is now in his seventy-fourth year , while Mrs. Turley is sixty-eight years of age. They were united in man Inge on March S , 1S7 : ! , in Tn/.owcll county , Illinois , jn which state they , with their parent" , arrived in 182IJ and 18-.J4 respectively. After h'aing Illi nois Ihey were among the early set tlers ot Anamosa , .Jones county , Iowa , and from there removed to tills city where the have resided for the past thirty-font years. As well as their parents , they have pioneered it nearly all their lives. A successful lawyer , by profession , Mr. Ttirloj finally became an inventor , and has probably taken out as many patents as any other one man. But like the majority of in ventors , he never made it a finan cial success for himself. During their long residence here they have accumu lated a largo amount of property , among which is some of the most desirable residence property in that portion of the city known sis Turley's Glen. A Fonst of MtiHlo. At the benefit concert tendered Miss Bella Kobmson at the opera homo lasl evening there was a largo audience am more real enthusiasm was manifest than is usual at concerts when ; so high : i class of music is given. While evidently satis fying to the stern rules of the chilly critic the charm of Miss Robinson's playing is in Iho evident love .she has for tl'o art and the soul power and expression whicl makes even the mechanism of keys am wires breathe with life and speak with feeling. While wonderfully accurate in the touch of each note , there is none ol that stiffness which comes from a more mechanical performance. The pro gramme presented a variety of selection ? from the several masters , and each num bcr was warmly applauded. In the opening number Miss Wies accompa nied her , and also played the accompaniments for the voca numbers of the evening.l" JiGrScii with great credit" Sir. Squire and Mrs. Estabrook , ol Omaha , added much to the enjoyment ol the evening by their voices. Mrs Squire lias a charming soprano voice , which is marked bv its sweetness and lle.xibility , Mrs. Kstnbrook has a contralto , of but ordinary power , but wonderfully smootl and rich , and her enunciation was so dis tinct as to add much to the onjoyability of hearing her , every word being as alonrly understood as though spoken The entertainment throughout was of : high order , and the participants wen called back again and again by the en thusiastlc listeners. The summer pulacn of the king , the Mango gardens , is considered the hand- bomcst place In Slumwrites a correspond ent of tlio St. Louis Republican. Thu main building is elected in the style of n French chateau , nnd is surrounded with grounds laid oil' with great skill by a landscape gardener , paths winding in serpontmo sinuosity in every direction , llownrs of all kinds till thu air with raresi pcrfirmo , nnd to add to the charms of the nlaco miniature lakes , dotted over with lotus plants in blossom , dasli their spark- lin" waters in the sunshine. r i Thcso lakes arc fed from the rivers that How in front of the palace , which , to gether with the yard , is enclosed by a wall containing a number of handsome buildings set apart tor the various wives of the king. Through the kindness oi the gardener in charge > I was shown through thu palace , thu king being ab sent , ho not staying there more than n month during the yoar. Thu palncn is built of tonk nnd other costly woods , the walls panelled most handsomely , the hard wood polished like n mirror , bringing out the grain ; the ceiling lofty , laid on * in handsome designs - signs and most elaborately gilded ; the o lloors n mosino of various woods , alsc highly polished , caoh room a diflorunt design , while the broad Ilight of stops that lends to the second story is simply grand , in keeping with the magnificence of thu interior. The king's chamber , bath-rooms , etc. were worthy of the nbodu of royalty , and his couch n "thing of beauty , " if not "i joy forever. " It was made of rare wooc nnd carved In tlio most exquisite design * draped with rare Ineo fringed with gold u gold embroidered spread covered llu jed ; the pillows anil bursters wore also icmmed with lace , nmT aTJovc U swung a landsomc punka to keep him cool , It seemed more like the work of art to please the eye than the resting place of one who courted shiuibnr , surcease of business and trouble arising from the control of over seven million people. In some of the room ; we noticed some very handsome furniture and fixtures , costly fables , crystal and ajabasler vases , etc. . though the place was dismantled during the absence ofrovalty. It Is a place that one tired with "power and the world would retire to for a month and live a clyslum or oriental .case. In the center of several of the lakes h.indsomo pavilions are erected , where the band discourses music , and on their rippling surface float barircs ready to bear the wives and children or family of the king , when ho concluded to pass his time there. Scattered throughout the gardens are cngcs containing inonkojs , birds , etc. , that add not a little to the picturesque ness of the scene. Fey over an hour our party strolled through the well-kept grounds and gardens , fifty men being constantly employed in beautifying and keeping them in order Amid a grove o rarest loliage , musical with birds , is a handsome Italian monument , erected to the memory of the late queen , who was itrowned by the sinking of a yacht , erected by ( he king , and by his special direction kept In the neatest order. As our time was limited wo could not sec but a portion of the beauties of this lovely place. It would take a column to speak at length of the various palaces that are scattered over the grounds , the Otiental watch and bell tower that sUnds like a giant sentinel towering over all , the handsome wat , built like a gothie cathedral , stained glass , etc. , but tin- shrill whistle of our steam launch reminds us that "timcisup. " and , with a sigii of regret , our party left the lovely Mango gardens , its world of ( lowers , its fragrant atmosphere and paradisical beauty an rlyimini where one could dream life away , the Nepenthe of the poet , where no raven will over "sit on the pallid bust of Pallas. " but eternal sunshine gilds the velvet curtains and casts a glory on the glistening floors. SPECIAL NOTICES.
