TFTTC OMAHA DAILY BEE : SATURDAY. FEBRUARY 19. 1887. THE SPECULATIVE MARKETS , Wheat Sells at Better Prices Under Foreign Ad rices. BUT LITTLE DEMAND FOR PORK. A Hntlicr Unsettled FccllnR , With Trnclrrs Inclined to L/cnvc the Dead Aloao A Good Bad- Weather Cattle Market. CHICAGO I'UODUCE MARKET. CHICAGO , Feb. Ib. ( Special Telegram to the BKK. I Cables were unusually bullish this morning. The Liverpool wheat market was quoted strong and 2d dearer for spot articles , and near futures quoted at "well controlled by bulls. " May wheat , which closed last nlgbt at TOJjfSTO c , opened at Kte , but n further advance was stubbornly re stated , and In a few minutes It was again idling at hut night's figures. Corn opened strong nnd 11-lOc higher , at 39S' ( * &fc for May , but soon reacted to last night's ticures. 1'ork opened strong and a fraction higher at 814.40 , but sold 1m mediately to S14..52V. Its strength , according to suifacu Indications , was due to thu llcht receipts of hogs at the yards. When wheat had advanced to M' c ibout 10 o'clock , the bears raided it briskly , causing a break to Tlt'ic. But the large ex ports. aggrezatingai'-.O.X ) bushels from three Atlantic ports , with light receipts at all | Kints , caused a sharp reaction to M ) } 4Ktc ) , nnd thu market finally reacted at MJ'jc. It was estimated that the visible supply would show R decrease of fully 1.000.UOO bushels. The crow d In pork beean to thin out quite early in thu dny and nearly all of them talked very bear ish. There was this fact , however. In favor of a market , that few operators were dis posed to hell It There was alto so little de mand for it that after May eot to 814.55 It was quite evident that there were few opera tors alstofed to pay a higher pi ice than that Mainly for this reason a rraction to 314.40 came , nnd during thu bulk of tradlni : the feelinc was heavy. When the bull clique began to bid for property again the offerings were moderately free , but In spite of tins the price rose to 314.72K , reacted to 514.0.5 , and closed there. Corn bold oil totfJVfc for May , but reacted with wheat advancing to 3U , < c , nnd closing at that figure. Oats de veloped no chanze. A very decided differ ence of opinion as to the status of the for eign markets was developed on 'change. The preference ot testimony was in favor of the bulls , but as the preponderence of spec ulative money appears to be still on top of wheat and pressing down , the liitlucnce of the bullish news was neutralized in n large degree and the tone of the market was loss firm than would have been the case ordinarily. CHICAGO LIVE STOCK. TiricAoo , Feb. 18. [ Special Telegram to tbe BKK. ] CATTLE The receipts for the day were 7,000 head , for the week so far 10.434 , for the same time last week 37,032. The weather was dull and stormy , with rain and snow during thu entire morning , yet there was a good market and a steady range of prices as compared with yesterday , when there was a decline of 10@13c , and it was among the possibilities that a part of that de cline would be regained to-day. Yet the weather was bad and buyers would remain out no longer than was really necessary. In a general way , however , trade Is about as good as could b expected with 40,000 cattle on the market In live days. Butchers and canning stock are 15@2.5c lower than last week. The stocker and feetler trade was slow owing to the bad weather , the rain and snow leaving stock In a shape and condition not lit to show. The market opened with thu buyerh bidding a little under yesterday , but as soon as the market was fairly opencu it was fully up to yesterday's prices. The demand was gooi and the market active , the pens being cleared at an early hour. The hogs dia not average as good to-day as yesterday , antl for that reason there were no sales made quite as high as one fancy load brought yesterday. There were somn very good medium weight and mixed loads in , but theru were no loads of choice heavy weights , and it is the latter that is most in demand and bringing the best prices. Sheep.
