yards. The week closed with the market

The robber was onrazcd at the indif

much awed by the other's manner that

other foot , and makes the malefactor the
cool headed one ,

Jackson ( ( ia. ) News : Miss Minnie
Atkinsonsister , of young Arthur A. Atkin-
hon , who died near Jackson last Satur
day night , lias been an inmate and stu
dent at Mary Sharp college , Winchester ,
Tenn. , for two terms past , and only ar
rived home last night , upon receiving a
telegram of the serious illness of her
brother. She relates a most singular cir
cumstance connected witli the death ot
her brother as follows :
She was very much devoted to her
brother Arthur , and had his picture with
her , which she showed to her associates
in college , and often spoke of the good
qualities of her brother. One of the
young ladies .seemed smitten with the
picture and asked to see it often. On
last 1'riday this young lady was in com
pany with Misss Minimi , and asked to
bee the picture. It was given her to look
at , and after ga/.ing nt it intently a few
minutes , she said :
"Isn't your brother dcoilf"
Of course the suggestion startled Miss
Minnie , but she replied :
"No , ho is not dead. "
The young lady , still gazing at the pic
ture , said :
"Minnie , your brother is dead. "
Miss Minnie immediately went to the
president and told him what had oc-
curiedi aud begged him to let her go
home al once , The president said it was
a mere idle fancy of the young lady , and
she ought not to let it trouble her mind ,
but to return to her room and think no
more of it. She returned to her room ,
but could not shako oil' thu impressions
made by the predictions of the young
lady , for she had a presentiment that it
was true , and that she would receive a
telegram confirming it. On Sim a ay
morning .she went to the president and
told him that lie ought to have let her go
home yesterday , for bho would receive a
telegram to-day announcing her brother's

the idea and again sent her back to her
room , Soon after leaving the president
on Sunday she received the telegram and

train , the president and physician of the

way , when Miss Minnie was intercepted

ord , I recalled a story told years ago by
Richard H. Dana , jr. , himself about his
book , anJ told again to me last year by
the friend to whom luyclatcd. it. It has
never been in print , I am sure. "When
1 got back. " said Dana , "from my two
years before the mast1 my eyes , which

tirely well. I sot to work at oucc to make
a story of my experiences out of the
journal which 1 had kept during the voy
age. I worked at it a long time , and
thought when 1 got through that I had
produced an interesting book. Hut when
