Yesterday a girl sent on a message by
her mother returned with a sad and
hocking story of abuse. Her mother
brought her to the police headquarters ,
and there the girl repeated the same
Btory. If it is true there should be hot
swift justice meted out to the offender.
The girl is but nine years old. County
Attorney Dally has the case in hand , anil
expects to start in on its prosecution to
morrow. He is inquirinir into it closely
before making any public move , so that
no injustice may bo done any innocent

Conic to Stay.
The boom closes its second week with
apparently as much life and vigor as
ever. Jt is pufling as if short of breath
on account of the speed with which it has
been running , its face is Hushed with ex
citement , but ( hero are no indications of
apoplexy , no hectic Hush of dying con-
.sumption , but instead the Hush of eager ,
healthy youth. Those who have passed
through some of the greatest booms on
record have , in visiting the city the past
few days , frankly confessed that they
never saw the like. The excitement is
that of a mining town boom. Painters
cannot make signs fast enough to supply
the now linns , even by inscribing them
hurricdlv on cloth. The streets show a
rush in every direction. On all sides is
heard talks of deals , checks seem to Hy
ing through the air , silver keeps up a
merry ringing , ami contracts and deeds
arc Muttering through the air like snow-
Hakes.
Old residents , careful business men ,
the conservatives , the evil prophets oven ,
catch much of the Inspiration and the
excitement They declare they do not
know what to make of it. They have
lost their bearings , and the only com
ment they can make is the query , will it
keen up ?
The more sanguine declare that it lias
not commenced. The building boom ,
which is the real one , is not yet open. It
seems assured that three great enter
prises will uo started this summer. One
is the now wagon and street car bridge
at the foot of Broadway , another is the
union depot , the third is the location of
the Union Pacific shops here. The im
provements about the transfer are great ,
as planned , and will certainly cause an
addition of 1.000 people to the population
of the city within a short time.
The boom is beyond description. Visi
tors to the city iuring the past week ,
who came somewhat prepared ironi what
they had read in the papers , expressed as
much surprise as if they had not read
notiting about it. They found the real
estate olliees thronged with excited men ,
women and children. Daylight has not
unouuh hourin which to do the business ,
and night is robbed of half of its hours ,
the olllces being crowded until ten and
cloven o'eloek.
There were a largo number of deals
yesterday , the papers of which will not
bo on record for a day or two. The ab
stract men are so far behind with their
work that the completion of papers for
tiling have to be deferred. The comity
recorder finds himself swamped , despite
the extra clerical force. Ho keeps good
naturcd tliouch , and his soft answers
turn away wrath.
Maps of the city can hardly bo had nt
any price. Those fortunate enough to
have any occasionally part with one to
help some new real estate firm , and
c-ibily gets 525 for them. New maps
are being prepared , and one now
one is being made showing the two
cities , with the river separating them.
Armour , Barbeo & Co. yesterday joined
with others in a syndicate , purchasing
Crittemlen's twenty-two acres for $23,000.
Among those interested in this deal arc
Messrs. Ilanthorne , Uiishnell , J. T. Hart ,
J. Y. Stone , and Captain Holmes of Mag
nolia. The intention is to plat and sell
the same.
J. T. Baldwin and G. M. Dodge have
for some time owned about three hun
dred acres on the river bank , reaching
back to Brown's addition. Yesterday a
syndicate was formed and the undivided
half owned by Mr. Baldwin was purchased
at $300 an acre. An attempt was made to
buy General Dodge's interest , but ho tele
graphed back yesterday that he would
not sell any of his Council Bluffs prop
erty nor put a value on it , as lie believed
Council Bluffs had entered upon a two
years' boom at the very least. Such a re
sponse from such a man strengthened the
confidence of all who heard of it.
C. S. Hubburd was not quick in catch
ing the boom , but he has it now , and per
haps worse than if he had got it earlier.
Ho lias purchased a lot corner of Avenue
A and 'Ihird street. He lias also joined
with N. Sehurv. in buying seventy-live
feet on Fourth avenue , between Sixteenth
and Seventeenth streets.
It. L. Williams yesterday secured the
option on forty acres belonging to Mrs.
Mynster , between Broadway and Harrison
risen street , adjoining L. Hammer's. Ho
is negotiating with Omaha parties to close
the deal.
An offer of ? 1OUO was made yesterday
Jor the property Known as No. 012 Broad
way , the O. K. meat market , but it was
refused.
Baldwin & Troutman yesterday sold
lots 4 and 5 in Rico's sub for $3,000 to a
syndicate.
Squire's Park addition will bo advanced
to-morrow $100 per lot.
Armour , Barbeo & Co. have some rare
bargains in store for their customers
Monday morning.
The Finest of Them All.
The Ninth Avenue car line , the Broad
way car line , the now wholesale yards ,
and the Union Pacific railroad shops ,
alto the now Broadway bridge , all of
which have done so much toward the
present rise in real estate values , arc in
and adjoining the now Omaha addition
to Council Bluffs , and make it the most
valuable piece in the city. Through its
nearness to botli cities it will become
their connecting link , and the present
prices for lots will seem ridiculous a few
weeks from now. The best endorsement
this addition could have is the fact that
investors purchased fifty thousand del
lars1 worth during the tirst eight hours
after the sale commenced and crowds
awaited the opening sale for an opportu
nity to purchase at the office of Odell
Bros & Co. , whore the addition was put
on the market. Lots on Ninth avenue ,
the route of the car line via the Union
Pacific bridge , were taken by the blouk
and but few of these are now to bo had.
A wide strip ne\t the Union Pacific rail
road track was taken for wholesale lum
ber and coul yards. Lots near Broadway
wont like "hot cakes. "
Omaha addition comprises 1GO acres of
the best land between the two cities , ami
as soon as the weather pormlts will bu a
pltico busy with workmen oreetinjr build
ings already projected , and placing the
tracks for the Ninth ayuuue line ,
On Monday at Uo'clouK prices on these
lots will bo advanced 25 per cent , The
sales in this addition havi ; progressed
steadily since the opening sale , although
so many now additions have been placed
on the market in the meantime , and al
though this is the largest new addition
to the city , the record of sales so far out
strips that of anything else as to insure
this investment , to prove in value second
end to none in tue city ,
Comparison of prices with those of lots
the same distance from the business
c-jnter of Omaha on the other siilw of the
river will how the bargain there is in
them , and the facility soon to bo availa
ble for reaching this addition from
Onifilia in a few minutes comfortably
any tiuio will practically luak'e it
East Omaha for the people of our sister
city , who are looking for residence sites
pleasantly located and witlnn easy
reach of their business , and at terms
within their reach. Lots can bo ob
tained cheaper now than next week and
for half the price they will bring in the
spring when operations commence. A
largo plat showing Omaha addition is on
the wall of the ollico of Odell Bros. Js
Co. , No. 103 Pearl street , whore free car
riages are also furnished with salesmen
to wait on customers desiring to visit the
ground.

The two weeks of the boom here rattled
and ra > ped the rushing crowds after bar

Hurry , that Sunday comes as a happy re
lief. The wise will seek rest from the
nervous strain anil wild confusion. The
worshipful will seek the quiet and sooth
ing inlluenee of tliosanctuarics. Seldom
has a Sunday been so heartily welcomed
in this city. There will be sonic who will
spend the day in grasping for gain , and
the boom will hardly rest for even tlio
Lord's day , but there will bo less outward
excitement and turmoil , and this will be
a relief. Among the church services to

Barn Before the Bar.
The saloon injunction cases still occu
pied the attention of the district court
yesterday. The particular case over
which the contest was carried on was that
against Peter Bcclitelc , the proprietor of
the hotel which bears his name. A new
turn was taken yesterday , a motion being
made by his attorney , Mr. Haldene , for
haying the case transferred to the United
States court. The fight was over legal
points wholly , and the attempt to have
the transfer made was resisted strongly
by Air. Sim , who appears for the prohi
bition alliance. No decision was reached
and there is no immediate prospect of
having the injunctions issued or of any
immediate change in the situation of the
saloon business in this city , so far as the
practical side of it is concernod.
Mrs. Wadsworth , who lias created a
favorable impression by her sweet sing
ing , will take part in the District school
entertainment on Tuesday evening.
