would have bulled instead of beared wheat.

forenoon. The cattle arrived cold and did
not take to Iholr feed and water as they
would had the weather been warmer. Tills
incident had Its effect on the market , as
salesmen could not very well price their
stock until they weio fed and watcied.
There weio but few really prlmo steers on
ealo , but the arrivals averaged good and use
ful stock for either the dressed beef dealer
or the shipper. As to the outlook
for the coming week , the prospects
nro that the seller will meet a better market
than last week. There Is a good demand for
iirst-class cows and heifers , but low grade
canning stock and common cows arc not
wanted. A consignment of Texans sold tills
inornlnu' at 83.5 % lor the cows and 5 i. 85 for

The Week.
Monday , Jan. 31 ,
The receipts of cattle have been light dur
ing the week , the total receipts amounting to
only 2,200. Of this number the greater pait
were sold here , only a very few being ship
ped. The demand has been good the greater
part of the week and the market active.
During the lirst half of the week the market
was tinning up , but dmlng. the latter half it
glow weaker and lower.
The receipts of hogs during the week
amounted to 1 ! > ,200. all of which were sold
and slaitgliteied hero. The market was
active all the week. The week opened with
4.75 as the top lor tlio best heavy hogs. On
Wednesday there was a decline of 5o , fol
lowed by an advance of lOe on Thursday ,
which prices held up for the rest of the week.
One of the features of the wetlc was the bet
ter demand for light hoes.
C'nttlc.
The receipts of cattle wore fair for thn first
of thu week but them was very little life In
the market. The maikct Is weak and lower
on corn led steers.
The receipts wore liberal for Monday and
the week opened with an active m.uket.
Heavy hogs , were about steady with Satur
day's prices while light IIOKS were higher and
bold within 5 ( JlOc of heavy hogs.
