CHICAGO PltODUOB MA1UCKT.
CHICAGO , Jan. 14. [ Special Telegram to
the llr.fi. I The wily countiyman has again
hidden Ills hops , or at Icist all his fat hogs ,
and Is smiling as prices go up at the stock
yards. There were only 17,000 head theio
this morning where 25,000 were expected ,
ntul as a result prices were 10@15c per 100
higher , anil ail hog scalpers were happy.
The effect on the board was an advance In
the price of pork to S12.25. The "talent , "
which hn ? been Bulling more vigorously at
S1LNX3I2.IO than ever It did when May poik
\vasat SM'i.OO ' , was again fueling very unhappy.
Countrymen , such ot them as frtrucil the
jiork pit , all looked gr.Ullied. The whole
advance did not last lonir. The May option
was off to S12.15 within the lint litteen min
utes. It was a bull day for provisions , how
ever , mid S12.25 was after ait a popular liguro
for May pork. After the first lltllo fluctua
tion at the ODdilng S12.25 was reached
again , and was not again departed
from veiy fur or very long. The
feature of the wheat pit fora week has been
the very heavy and steady buying 01 Field ,
Llndley it Co. They luuo bought right
hlrulght along without selling until , with all
the quarter million lots and half million lots
added together , they must , hold a gieat lot

lias been for California. News fiom this
quarter rut a llgure to-day. Wheat on the
const Is reported to have advanced ! } < fc ) 'or
Imshel on the drought and dispatches sild
that If the dryness continued there would bo
no grain for export. There was a great deal
of short wheat covered this fotcnoon. Some
jiut It as high as 6,000,000 to 0,000,000 bushels.
The buyers wcio Ueam , Dloom , CHTord and
others of the hie traders. There was talk of
all horts. There was the bull talk fiom Cali
fornia on the onu hand nnd tall ; ol all bints
frnin New York. Clearances at the sea-
boanl were unexpectedly large KJO.OOJ
bushels and it was leported that loadings
were going forward , so clearances tor to-
xnorinw mo likely to bo heavy.
There has been a larger export already so
far this week by 270.000 bushels than last
week , while the iccclpts nt leeeivlng points
arc also 100,000 bushels smallcr.making a dif-
