In the Ilou"mnn-llo4owntor libel cases

briny forth , llollmnn showing the groat-

of tliu country tlirough whion ho must

it hurriedly by rail. The testimony of
Iloll'mnn in regard to tin ; disposition of

he ran short of funds. Curtain docu

admitted In evidence , were gone over the
second time , and the matter of the tclo-

upon for n long time , the cross-examina

of accuracy , it having no time placed
upon it when it was received , or who it
came from , or what kind it was whether
a day or a night niPHsngo. The losti.
inony.here closed for the forenoon.
The afternoon in the libel suit was en
tirely occupied in the rebuttal testimony ,
in which many of the former witnesses
were recalled for short intervals , and
much sparring was indulged in by
thoi attorneys , and : i largo amount of
written testimony was read to the jury ,
including the deposition of Hedges taken
iu Arkansas. A large number of articles
from the 13ii : were read to the jury , and
when court was through at night the evi
dence was ended and arguments are the
order for to-day.

The State Journal lias at last entered
the congressional contest , enough to
tacitly endorse Howe and commence a
campaign for him. This great opening
of the railroad organ followed immedi
ntely on the heels of u personal visit o
Church Howe to the third floor of the
Journal building , when the law wns
laid down to the head of the concern
The opening of the Journal batteries are
characteristic of the paper , for , while a
great many people rtro wonderinir how
that organ will fall into line to support :
man who tried to steal the state

they behold the Journal dogding al
these and entering upon a sections
warfare against Oinuhr. howling down ,

without the taint of bribery while his

the great organ of every trickster am

by howling against Omalui.
