again , and ask thorn whether they-had
sent it , and how. Ho showed i\n answer
stating that the money had bron for
warded by mail , by ehenk on the Mer
chants'National bank of Omaha , with

two the hitter arrived , and ho showed a

" him , as it was after banking hours , und

the check and showed it to his friend Peter
son. They concluded it was good , bui

mnk. They took it to Ollifcr & Pusey's
bank , but were informed that they could
lot cash it , as the funds were looked up ,
jut the bookkeeper said he would receive
t fur collection and gave him a receipt
for the check , the receipt stating that it
was for collection. Huworth went back
o the hotel and advanced the stranger

The old settlers had a most glorious
day for the reunion at Macedonia yes
terday. About leO went from Council
[ Hulls on a special train , accompanied by
the Macedonia band , which came up here
to act as escort. They reached Mace-
Ionia about 11 o'clock and were met by
conveyances to carry the ladies. A pro
cession wus formed and to tlio inspiring
strains of the band the young old folks
narehcd out to the grove , where they
were welcomed by lion. B. F. Clayton ,
who made a very happy speech , which
nut all in good nature. Hon. W. H.
Pusoy. of tins city , was then introduced ,
though an introduction was hardly
necessary. Ho told the tale of early
trials and strugglescomplimented ; highly
the pioneer women , who aided and
cheered tlio husbands , taught the sons
and civili/.ed the brothers and lovers , He
spoke of the triumphs that crowned
the struggles , and said they were
well won and deservedly worn.
Itiluy Briggs. of Carson , followed
Mr. Pusoy , and ho in turn was followed
by Spencer Smith , ot this city. The
speaker noticed seine of the changes that
are visible since Pottawattamio county
was carved out just thirty-eight years

About this time dinner was announced
and everybody invited to join. The
inner man was bountifully supplied , arid
the guests are loud in their praises of the
hospitality of their hosts. The rest of
the afternoon was tilled with short
speeches , music , hand-shaking , reminis
cences and in perlocting a permanent or
ganization and selecting olllcers for tlio
next year. Thuru were nearly 3,000 people
ple on the irrounds during the day. The
Council Bliius delegation returned in the
evening by thuir special train , tired , but
happy.

future a largo outlay to the Union Pacific
railway.
For a long time the passenger platform
facilities at the Broadway depot have
been such that there is great danger in
loading and unloading passengers from
the cars. In fact , the platform has been
in its present condition almost ever since
there has been a Broadway depot , but
until recently no such accidents Imvo
occurred. A number of ladies , in thuir
eagerness to get on the train as they sco
it being shoved away from tlio platform ,
have been thrown to the lloor , anil if ono
life is taken by the Union Pacilio in this
way , it will cost thn road enough to
build several such additions as the ono
needed hero to make accidents ! < . < ss
liable.
What is wanted and what should be
clone , without any inoro red tnpe or
liguring , is nn extension of the platform
so that when the trains arrive Ihn engine
can run around the cars without havin < ;
to "kick" them buck as now , which is
against the laws of the state.
