The Syndicate Trouble.
Ycslcrdaj afternoon Mr. J. C. Cow In
ana J. U Webster filed In
the United Stiles court an In-
cresting and important series ot lallldavlts ,
pertaining to th- > South Omaha syndicate
trouble. Thev represent the side of Messrs
Swobe , Murphy , Hamilton and other bond
holders who are opposed to the snlu of the
syndicate piopeity. They are , In lact. n
dlic't answer to the Interesting panels tiled
by thu Busier men In the Tutted States court
n few davs ago , and of which duu notice was
given In the BrK.
TheiillldavlLs uro from Thomas Swobe , J.
K. Mnrkel. Fran1Muiphv. . Georuu Darker.
Samuel Uogcis , ili-n B. A'ood and C. W ,
Hamilton.
They are , In substance , very much similar.
Thu ollldavlt of Mr. Swobe , which Is pel haps
the must Iciuthv. recites thu facts leading up
to thu attempted transfer of the sjndlcate
pioperty. Mi. Swobo states that otigiiudly
the Mlieinu had been outlined
by Swan to sell the pioperty
to a Scotch nnd Knglish syndicate for fcT.'iO-
000. This syndicate. It was announced ,
ivould expend Horn Sl.OCO.ooo to SI.MW.OOO In
the way of improvement , such as gimllng
street * , making houlevntds , constiucllng
lievv hotels , building houses on the
land , nnd constructing n cable line
from Omaha to South Omaha , etc.
This , Mr. Swobe thought , would enhance the
valuuof ids Omaha piopcrty and on these
representations ho consented to a transfer of
tins propeity to the syndicate. Itnfterwatds
developed thai thu sale to tlio sjndleato had
fallen through , and , conscqucntlj , Mr.
Bvvobo's consent to thu transfer was with
drawn. Thu nlltnnt believes , fiirthcrmoiu.
that thu sum of ST.Vooo Is much too small nnd
that the property is worth about n million
and a half. Mr. Swobo also savs that Wil
liam A. Paxtou asked lor an option ot this
property for SiO,00o ? , but was denied It by the
eyndlcnte.
J. K. .Markc ) swears that Alev Swan ad
mitted to him. on July UTth , lSb < ) , that ho was
interested In thu sale ot the laud to Hosier ,
and pioposod to Invest Si",000-
M. A. Upton , who keeps the records of the
ejndlcate meetings , swears that hu hns no
record of thu meeting at which Messrs. Hnm-
iton. Murphy and Swobo were otutcd fiom
\hn board of directors.
The aflldavltsof the other gentlemen are
very similar to that of Mr. Swobe. All de
clare that thej'had no notice of the meeting
at which the change In directors was made.
Messrs. Webster & Cowin tiled n motion In
the United Statescourtycsterdav to have thu
83 ndlcatu case removed wholly to the district
court.
A iiisTnirr roimr oitmnt.
An order was issued In the district court
yesterday morning , directing A.
11. Swan nnd thu other numbers
of the South BOinaha Land sjn-

not bo punished for contempt of court In
falling to comply with thu Injunction 10-

In both thu United States and district courts
nnd It is impossible to tell what the outcome
will be. If the statements on account of
which the last older was Issued are tiuu they
ihovv that the syndicate. , has Ignored the
power of thu court and sold land just as
iieely as though no Injunction hud been
granted. Thu case will come up in a few
days and It can then bo ascci tallied whether
or not the syndicate exceeded its authority.

At 8 o'clock Sunday eveningjtho pnlrol

that n woman living at tluit place had
shot her husband und herself. Marshal
x Cummings responded to the cnll , but
found the designated house on tlio cor

husband : uul a self-murdered woman as
Its occupants From tlio neighbors it
was gleaned that Snsio Stevviirt , the
woman who used to have a barber shop
on Douglas street , had quarreled
With her man and niiulo an at
tempt to perforate him with
pullets. Doth she and her man had dis
appeared before the arrival of the mar-
bhal. The trouble arose , it appears , out
of a quarrel concerning Mrs , Stewart's
inurtial relations. Mrs. Stewart is n
white woman who lived with atcvvart , a
colored barber , a few jears ngo , nnd
trorXed with him in the shop. She left
him and for some tliuo was the consort
of Ike Glover , thu colored pugilist.
When Glover was arrested for the assault
upon Myrtle Grant last year. Mrs , Stew
art left him nnd has since been living
with white fellow named Johnson who
is employed in a livery stable on St.
Wury'd avenue. Of Into it appears that
fho has been renewing her associations
with Glover nnd vvliun Johnson imsisted
upon having tlio color line drawn ti little
jnoro closely tlio trouble arose with the
results as above stated. No arrests have
bccu made.
