Merchant Truvclor : The doctor- came ,
anil in duo connso Johnson was called in
to see the little stranger. 'NVhon ho en
tered the room he looked inexpressibly
anxious , half hope , half tear , and turn
ing to the doctor , .said in suppressed ex-
citemant " it " "Ah "
"Js
: a boy ? tun
hesitated the doctor ; "ah , 1 believe not , "
for ho know what the father's hope had
painted. "What ! not a boy , " said the
parent of live girls ; "not a boy ? Well ,
I'll be dad blasted } f it ain't too bad. "
"Oh , no , " meekly interrupted Mrs J.
from her couch in the corner ; "oh , no ,
don't say that , dear , for the next live
may bo all boys. " This was too much ,
and Johnson left the house and tried to
bribe a street-ear driver to run over him
and cut him in two.
