Missouri Valley wants to bo tiic scat of
government for Harrison county , and
wants to badly. Some of the enthusiastic
citizens are trying to boom ti plan by
which Missouri Valley is to donate the
grounds for a court housu , and raise the
necessary money for a building , if the
county will give it the seat. Logan does
not propose to give it up , and by keeping
thu bidding lively there is a good pros
pect for the county to get a court house

Saturday ho was brought to this city and

standing at the foot of his bed she sud

Imthcr Gossip.
"You fellows didn't gut down to tiio
bottom facts about that Hon Long shoot
ing scrape , " remarked the barber as ho
gave the razor an extra honing , in vluw
of the reporter's chrek , on which ho was
working. "Hen wasn't so much to blame
as some would make out. It is : v dead
certain fact that he found two follows in
the house , when ho caino back so unex
pectedly from Missouri Valley that night.
One of thorn was a barber , Joe Anderson.
Barbers have some troubles as well as
other folks , and when Long came around
the next day with a big gun , hunting for
Anderson , Joe just jumped out of town ,
and has stayed out over since. Long
would have shot him sure. I hear that
he is working over the river , and I expect
almost any day to hear that Long has
run across him there , and put a hole
through him. "
A lawyer in the next chair straightened
up , after his shave , and while the finish
ing touches were being put to his hair , ho
imparted the information : "Thoy were
going to have an information lilcd against
Long for shooting at his wife , but when
it was all drawn up , the woman backed
out and wouldn't sign it. The tact I
think is that they did not care to show up
who wan in the house when Long came
homo and commenced shooting. "
"My the way , " chipped in another , as
" " "i Derkscn the
he called "next , saw
oilier day in Omaha. Ho is working there
in a barber shop. Ho says that ho won't
come over this side of the river , and that
if ho has got any friends hero and they
want to sue him they can lintl him in
Omaha. I get it pretty straight from an
other barber , whom Dorkben told all
about it , that ho got prott.y badly laid out
in California. When ho jumped out of
the Blnll's ho took about $1,700 with him.
After getting out there in California , a
fcllcv , ' r.r.r/ic ; ! ilc'jcrtf ' , who * 7"ni oi'twith '
him , got him to start a saloon and a
gambling place , lloborts was a carpen
ter by trade , and ho didn't know any
thing about such a buoiness , and Dork-
.sen , you know , is no gambler Roberts
made him believe that ho knew till about
it , and that there was millions in it , and
so Dorkson let Roberts ire ahead and
manage the business. Either Roberts
stood in with the gang to do Dorkson up
or else ho got fooled himself. Anyway
the gang got right away with the roll.
Dorkson lost about all that he got a\vay
witli from bore. I guess that ho lias trot
a little loft , but not much. Ho is now
working by the wock again. "

third time they came back they tried the
baek door and windows , then wont to the
front door again. 1 warned them
that I would bhoot , but they shook
the door so hard I expected it would

for fully half an hour , when I heard
groans. My clerk and I then wont out
