Do you con sider that an exorbitant price with all those frost-bites thrown in ? I don't. The fact is , plumber ' charges are not as a rule unreasonable when you come to in vestigate them. Time is the chief ele ment in nearly all our charges. For in stance , your hydrant needs a washer. In stead of getting ti piece of leather , cut ting a washer and putting it in yourself , you .say you haven't time and stop at my shop and leave word for mo to do it. That means n walk of several squares going nnd returning , to do ten minutes' woilc. I eliargo you 25 cents , and > ou think it outrageously high just for putting in n bit of leather. I Jut when you count up all the time consumed the charge is not high. The same thing is true in a great measure of nearly all small jobs , \Ve luu o to go about lugging great loads of tools and solder and lead pipe and other materials , und are en titled lo pay for doing it. It is a part of our business , and not a pleasant part either. Don't you fear. I'm not goiug to charge up in your bill for fixing thm pipe tno time I've used up in talking to you.
