complaints made as to Prof. Cash , who
came here from Kansas last fall to take
the position of principal of the high
school. Tic ! u complaints were not
against his characti r , but -cemed to cen
ter about the one gem ral complaint that
he was too strict in his discipline and
that he rather bordered on dietatoiial
control of the pupils under his charge.
That he had frequent occasion to exer
cise Ills disciplinary powers amiabilities
there is little question , but it is said that
he has been inclined to go beyond what
is necessary. The older pupils are
said to have been treated as though
spoiled children , and several lime been
suspended , or expelled practically , for
oll'discs of a trlt iai nature , which should
have been adjusted in some ther
way. The members of the highest
class at last united in a request
thai he be allowed to re
sign , and the prediction was made that if
lie kept on his course of turning out
every offender , the high school _ would
soon be depopulated. The condition of
affairs thus getting o badly tangled , the
board thought il bi st for the geiitliMiian
to resign , which suggestion he quickly
compiled with. Yesteiday morning lie
made his farewell address lo the school ,
his remarks being bitter in the extreme.

For several reasons it lias been deemed
important that bids for the extension of
the new sewer ditch bo received and
considered at as early a date as possible.
The law requires that the advertisement
for bids shall appear in two daily papers
for five days. The council figured out
the time and found that by promptness
in publishing , the bids could be opened
nc.xt Tuesday evening , to which time the
council adjourned. The publication was
secured in the evening paper , but instead
of clipping it out and publishing it I he
next morning , as is ustiallv the case with
the Nonpareil , that paper paid no atten
tion to it. This has necessitated the
postponement of the opening of bids to
Wednesday evening. It is understood
that the reason why the old lady did not
put it in her scrap book was because she
felt her official position had not been
.sufficiently recognized by being expected
to take the copy second hand. If she
was as delicate about using s | | ( > : tr.s lor
her news columns as in tins c.iso she
seems to be in regaid to an advertise
ment , her scrap book would contain
more originality.

conviction of a boyish looking fellow
named Kd Lloyd , for forging J. It. Day-
idson's name lo a check. He was sen
tenced to the penitentiary for four year- ,
but he has now been pardoned out. In
his possession at the time of the arrest
were several letters , the signatures to
\\hichliadbeen destroyed , but which in
dicated that I hey \\cro written by a fond
f.illier , who had done all that he could to
keep his boy trom going astray , but
who bad to'help him out ot numerous
-cranes. It was atterwards learned that
the lather ol the young man was a prom
inent resident of I 'tali , and a member of
the Utah commission. He lias by his in
fluence , and by the slate of health of his
sou , .succeeded in getting a pardon for
the boy. Young Lloyd was in poor
health when eut to the penitentiary , and

oilier diseases that ho has been reduced
to u skeleton , and does not seem lo have
a very long leaoo of life.
