The holiday trade in the IJlun"is ex ceeding the expectations of the mer chants. The people arc bujiug earlier than in previous seasons , and while there arc not probabl.so many elegant prcs. cuts pim-lwpil.ypt the number of pur chasers larger and the aggregate sales greater. Saturday theie uas a rush at all the piineipal stores , and everything indicate * that all will be kept lm-\ . this week. One pe < uliar feature of tin- holi day trade here N that the nicrchanN have placed their selling prices down to where the people can reach them , lu-tead of putting on fancy "holiday" figures. goods are being sold here nt remarkably low prices. Another peculiar feature is that in the slocks for the holiday trade there are -o many littlf novelties \\hieh can be had for very little money. Oftentimes tlii ! novelties are either .so cheap In ap pearance , or flM the\ are so elegant and costly as to bo out of HIP reach of all bill the wealthy. There is noticeable here this -ea on a great many low juiced novelties , dainty , elegant , HM-- ml , making the prcltK.-t sort of gifts , because they are unpretentious , and yet thei are such as in uI proxo ac ceptable to any one. Another peculiarity of tins M'asoii'.s trade is that there are bo. ingold more practical gilts than Usual The n-elnl is being considered as well : u the ornamental. The displays in this pity never excelled those ot this vcar , even in the line of rich goods , and this year's displays far excel all previous years in the \arii-ty ol Useful , popular ar ticles and small novelties. Council lilull's niercliants ha\e shown great wis dom in select ing their holiday stocks , and in making prices to meet the popular de mand tor economy. Tor these reasons a larger proportion of the residents of the city than ever before are making their purchases at home , and the city is draw ing a larger trade than ever from tlio sur rounding country. Council Hlull's will bear comparison with any city in the we-t for variety of holiday goods , and for low prices. It is therefore reaping the reward. _ _ Klcgant line of silk plushes in new .shades , cords , ta-sels. etc. , at the C. 15. Co. Carpel _ _ Pro-out * of every description can bo found al D. In a few days the other windows of this house will be decorated. Messrs. Ilarkness Brothers have two windows within a window , showing new draperies , lainbiequins and curtains. They are trimmed as finely as any in the city. city. The Council HlnlVs Carpet company also have the decorations in their show windows fixed up very tastefully. The Mueller Music company has its windows crowded with an endless variety of toys , with a Santa Clans. The wreck was drugged down to Broad way , the frightened horses not stopping until they had landed themselves and the remains of the wagon in front of the Council Blull's Carpet Co's store. It was pa-sing strange that they did not go through the store front , as the horses were bent directly for it when a friendly telegraph pole prevented.
