The accounts cover quite a pe riod of time , and transactions which foot up nearly a quarter of a million dollars , on which a balance is claimed of about $ J2.000. There are so many items and snob a volume of entries to examine that it is slow work , and will take a long lime to develop into a true balancing of ac counts. In t/nstico Schnr/'sconrtthotimoof the jndgo , a jury , several lawyers and a number ot witnesses has been taken up for two days in the reaching of some de cision in the case of two boys , little fel lows , who had some trouble arising from one boy throwing clods of dirt at the other. To spend so much time and enuse so much expense over such a trivfal matter scorns nonsensical. The work on the Indian creek sewer ditch , or whatever it may be called , ueems to have got into a badly muddled condition as regards linances , ami the contractor , Mr. Vincent , was informed by telegraph that unless he should re- fiiune tlmvork yesterday with a full force , the contract wouhf bu annulled. llo appeared yesterday with a few men , nml after talking over the matter with the olllcials it was decided that if he would do what ho could right away , the city would allow him until the lirst of November to get a full force at work. Kevlvnl Scenes. The Muthnilibt church is now crowded every night with attendants upon the revival services there in progress under the charge of Kev. Thomas Harrison , known as "tho boy preacher. " He is far from being a boy , but ho preserves his youthful appearance , anil with n smoothly fchavcn face and close cut hair , pompa dour fashion , he looks at a distance very much like n boy , his figure being slight ami his complexion fair. A closer approach preach reveals .some of the marks of mature age , and the cares and tolls of life have left their impress , lie has a happy smile on his face most of the time and ho in as restless as a newly caged bird. In his exhortations he has a pecu liar manner of drawling out some of his words , and perhaps the very next utter ance will he snapped off as though hit by lightnfng , He has also a habit of re peating a question over and over again , with various comments between these repetitions. He starts out , for instance , with the query , uttered with much force and vigor , "Are you converted y" ami then making a remark or two as to what he means by conversion , repeals the query , " /.re yon converted V" ami then tells some anecdote , and then comes the question ngain , and so on and on and on , until the question ih fastened on to the attention and thought of every one. Following Ids exhortation comes the request for all who have been converted to rise and remain stand ing. Then , while there is singing , those who want to be prayed for , or who feel the need of being converted are urged to simply rise to their feet and stand with the others. While this is going on , and all the congregation are singing , Mr. Harrihon indulges in another of his pet habits , clapping his hands sharply and clearly , the noise being heard all over the church , while he interjects into the singing , in clear sharp tones , various re marks , such as , "God bless that young man , \vlio has just rjsen , " "See them rising , rising , rising , rising , " "King , " in the meantime walking hurriedly with a short , quick , nervous htep up and down the ai.-le , jumping up onto the rostrum , and for a minute waving ids hands , keep ing lime with the music , and acting as the musieaj director of the large chorus , then jumping down anil onto tin : aisles and pews again , smiling at this one , beckoning to'anolber , stopping to whis per a word to another , and thus through the fame actions and back again. Then all who have arisen are urged to take the further step , and present themselves to the altar , while the congregation Ixicomcs seated. Kneeling around the altar rail are a number of ministers and earnest laborers , who work with anil for the pen itent ones. I'ni3-ers are interspersed with singing , ejaeulatory remarks , an oc casional shout , and a frequent chorus of "Aniens. " Suddenly the evangelist springs onto the platform and shouts , "Here are tiiree blessed souls converted , right here , and hapjiy in the Lord. " Then he leads all in singing , "Praise ( Jed from Whom all Blessings How. " This is repeated ascadi , conversion is reported , the enthusiastic revivalist spatting his hands , and keeping up a run of ejac ulations. Thus the praying and the singing is kept up , various workers go ing through the audience , interviewing those whom they thought were about ready to ask for prayers. Mr. Harrison in the course of the service the other evening said , " 1 tell you this has been a' glorious meeting. Why it'/j / a regular cyclone of glory , but yet this is only as the gathering of the clouds to what is to come. There's going to be such a storm as will shake up this whole town. 1 ex pect , by Sunday to be able to have a jubilee for one hundred souls converted , and this house will not be able to hold half the people. Why don't yon know that down ill Missouri there has been Mich a religious upheaval that 0,0)0 ( ) were out to a meeting held before breakfast in the morning ? You have heard of the big revival in Hellcfontainc. Ohio thousands being converted and the town turned upside down. Let us pray to ( iod , and 1 know that while He IK doing all these wonderful things at oilier places He will give us hist a little good tim i here. : > The enthusiasm of such a leader and Ins confidence seem to bb a great clement of success , and as the mectingH are nightly growing in num bers and the interest is evidently increas ing , it seems that before the cud of an other week the revival will have attract ed the attention of everybody. Thijre are many who go out of simple curiosity and many who do not fully endorse such methods of church work , but still they go and the crowds are all the time growing larger. A llnilway Wreck. At an early hour yesterday morning a bad wreck , but one which fortunately in jured no one , occurred at the crossing of the Chicago , Kock Island & Facilic and the Chicago , Burlington & Qulncy roads , in the southern part of the city , it being caused by the collision of two freight trains. H. P. Johnson was the conductor and J. W. Shields the engineer of the Hock Island train. It was coming from the cast. The Uurlinglon train was manned by W. White , conductor , and K. T. Emery , engineer. Jt was coming north , and reached the crossing just be fore 0 o'clock. The engineer says ho got a signal from the tower and came up , and had twenty cars over the crossing , when the Kock Island ran into his train , I overturning three Hat ears loaded with coal. Just in front of these cars was an emigrant car , which they had taken on" at Paeitio Junction , and which had three mefi in it. The call was a close one for them , but the car had passed over the crossing just in time to escape. The Hock Ibland engine was thrown partly over on her side , the steam chest broken , and tlm pilot and gome smaller parts damaged. Only otic box car on the Kock Island train was wrecked , and that not badly. Tlio Hat cars were torn from the trucka'and somewhat broken. A con struction train in charge of Koadmaster Frank COK was at Atlantic , and came in about II o'clock. Master Mechanic S. S. Chapman had already a full force at work clearing up the wreck. The Kock Island passenger train cairns as far as the wreck and then went back to ( ildndalo and came In on the Milwaukee & St. Paul track. Tlm cause of the collision dogs not seam clear , lieorge Well * , who was on duty in tin * tower , says that the signals were all right for the ( J , to cross and for the Hock Island to wait , and that the < J. train was half over the crossing when the Itoek Island whistled for tlm nignul for the eroding. Wells says he could not give It to them. " < timatl Two burglaries were yesterday re ported to the police as having occurred the previous night. One of these was at the residence of Mr , Patrick Fceley , on lower Bancroft street. The thieves getaway away with some clothing , but nothing else of special value. The entrance was gained by the door being left open by Mr. Feeley and his wife when they re tired , so thai James might enter when ho returned , without awakening them When ho did come in he found that his room had been visited , and the most of his wardrobe taken. Another attempt is reported as having been mane at the boarding house of Mr. Kelley , near the Chicago , Burlington Ai Quincy depot. A fellow was discovered prowling about the house , having gained entrance through a * vindow. He hurried out , and the police afterwards , from the description given them , arrested a young man giving his name as John McKonnic , whom they found on Main street , and who was identified as being the one who was in the house. It appears thai he did not get anything , and it Is sajd that he wandered into the house while drunk and that he simply thought he could get a chance to sleep there. Another theory of his defense is that , he was trying to get some clothing out of the house in order to help the owner of the clothing , who was boarding there , skip out without settling his bill , llo will have an examination to-day. From ( lie Penitentiary to Jail. Harry Prentice is now lying in the At lantic jail , to \vuit his trial on the charge of burglary and forgery , lie hasjiibt served a term of one year in Jolict , 111. , for the robbery of a widow at Carthage , III. , and was released Tuesday morning , and Ihe next morning , twenty-four hours from the time of his release from the state prison , he was behind the bars at Atlantic. While living in Atlantic he was a gay Lothario , and succeeded in capturing the affections of several of the lair sex there. The fall of this pet of the ladies caused no little sensation at the time when his real character became known , and his return to Atlantic under such circumstances revives the sensation.
