It la an aop'easant truth , remarked a gen
tleman at the | ard the other day , that very
few fat cattle are coming In from tha raugeu
Three years ago a two year-old steer on the
Laramle plains was ai fit for market as a five-
year-old DOW , It la a mistake to attribute
thU entirely to overcrowding the etcck , for
while that may have something to do with it.
the main reason Is that the cattle are worked
too hard , A few years ago when the major
ity uf the stock belonged to small concerns a
certain time was fixed upon tor rounding up
all tbo stock , then they were let alone until
the season arrived fur rounding up again ,
Now the stock Is owned principally by large
concerns that are strong enough to act Inde
pendent and they round up when und as often
as they pleaie. The result is that the cattle
are always on the drive and it is no wonder
that they ore thin.
