List Monday Theodora Undo , nn alleged
legod deserter from the United States
army , was nrroitod in Omalu and taken
out to the fort for preliminary oxnralni-
tlon. IIo has alnco baon In prison thcro
pending an Investigation of hla cue.
Thursday evening hla attorneys , Anderson
and George Shloldi , procured a writ of
habeas corpus for hisroloiso , la the caan-
ty court. Llndo was brought down from
the post and lodged in the oonnty jail ,
and yesterday his casa came np In
the connty court. By consent , however ,
It was postponed uatll 10 o'clock this
morning.
The counsel for the prison or , It la
understood , claim that Llndo la Insane
and Irresponsible for his acta and will argno
for hU" release on thoao grounds. The
history of his case as gained from Judge
Anderson Is certainly rather curloua.
It Booma that Llndo la the eon of
wealthy and rospcoUblo parents In
Copenhagen , Donnmk. Since early
childhood ho hea manifested elpns of
braln-woaknoas , wbish in late years de
veloped into positive Insanity. When he
TV&S 10 years old hi ] folks decided to
place him in an insane asylum. Before
they could accomplish this atop , however ,
Theodore , who had In all probability be-
corao apprised of the scheme , fled from
Denmark end took passage In a atoamor
for America , of which ho had vague
visions an a "land of promise. " Arriving
In this country In the latter part of 1881 ,
ho knocked about the country from place
to place , doing odd jobs of work. Ho
finally entered the navy vrhilo yet n
minor and served the United Statoa in
the pouttlon of a cadet aallor about nine
mouths , when ho loft without
taking the necessary formal steps.
In the meantime his anxious relatives
in Copenhagen had boon sending letters
to all parts of America , hopinij to gain
some trace of the loat heir. Finally ono
of thoeo letters fell into the hands of a
Mr. William Luckc , living In this city ,
who succeeded in locating Llndo , and se
cured him a position In Omaha. Latterly
ho has been a bartender at the Planters
House , and has berne a good reputation
for sobriety and reliability , though at
times ho has exhibited decided symptoms
of cran kinesi. A few days ago a man
by the nama of Hans Thlelgoard , who
had become apprised of the secret of
Lnndo'fl life , became indignant on ac
count of eorao fancied grievance and be
trayed him to the military authorities.
Judqo A'ndorson claims ho is in posses
sion of ample correspondence from rela
tives in the old country to show that the
young man Is demented. Every effort
will bo made to rescue him from the fate
of a doaerter'o prison.
