There wcro rumors on the street early this morning that this company had lost ono of its steamers , After opening a shade lower at C-ljc , stocks rapidly sold down , and on tumora before any thing definite was known , to DOgc , that price being reached in the first hour. It then rallied In the forenoon to 52&C , and was active and feverish during most of the afternoon , finally closing at 51&c , at n decliuo cf 2Jc. The general list was strong In the early deal ings , and the market decidedly nctlvo. Dur ing the afternoon prices were comparatively steady and business much more restricted , until later in the day , when there was another decline , followed by a reaction in which Iftto losses were reovored ; the market closing steady at i@Jc lower than they closed last evening.
