Stocks Stocks were weak during the early
part of the day , but rosoverod a portion of the
losa in the last two hours. A steady drive ,
accompanied by some realizing , has boon
made to-day against some of the loading ac
tive stocks , notably Laokawauna , which de
clined nearly two per cent. The general list
opened weak and dull , and without any im
portant reactions during the day ( lowly but
steadily yielded on limtied transactions until
after 2 o'clock , when there was n moro decided
break in the moro active stocks , which was
checked only a few minutes before the close of
the board. In the final transactions there
was n ral'y of J to ic , with Lackawana gaining -
ing jc , and the market finally closed barely

Butter The market is in the worst state of
demoralization and thoglut _ continues. A
comparatively small portion of the receipts
composed of tha best quality of fresh grass
butter only Is picked out by the trade , 1 Oo
being the best prica obtainable and almost an
exception , while all off grades , euch as lack
uniformity In color or have not been worked
properly , are taken by packers only at ex
tremely low prices , ranging from 3@7c. The
total la eurely very discouraging to shippers ,
and prospects are anything but bright , Sales
are made very slow now.
Eggs At the beginning of the week it
seemed as if the market wai going ta strength
en up some , but receipts Increased and they
would not move above lOc , Rotten eggs are
now putting In an appearance and candling Is
necessary.
Poultry Receipts of old chickens are very
heavy nnd demand is only limited , not over
83.00 obtainable. Spring chickens are also
plentiful nnd slow sale at $3.00 ; larger sizes
ore wanted nnd will bring better prices.
