GoTernmonU Dull and nnchsnged , except
an advance of ic in currency G's of 1895.
Stocks Were firm at the opening and the
first prices generally n small fraction higher
than at the close last evening , Vanderbilts
wore an exception to this rule and the break
in New York Central and Lake Shore im
mediately after the opening extended IB the
early dealings to the rest of the list. Gould
stocks were well supported throughout the
day. The early decline in New York Gen
tral from last evening amounted to Gfjc , while
Lalto Shore fell 2jjc. The rest of the list
yielded to an average of Ic , and with a fair
amount of business the market continued
weak until after 1 o'clock , whan the decline
was chocked and a moderate rally followed ,
the market finally cloning steady midway
between the highest and the lowest quota
tions and at prices which arc , for the most
active stocks , frcm J to 1 { o lower than they
they closed last evening.
