Fremont Herald , A gentleman recently from Cuater county , Neb. , informs ua of an occuranco which took place at Loa Park about two weeks since , ana which , as related by him , he being a witness to a part of it , was of a decidedly sensational character. It seems a man by the name of Steven son came to Lao Park about four years since , and , taking a claim near by with hi little three-year-old daughter for a family established himself as a residentIn the course of time he married a Mrs. Mary Shannon and everything was running is smoothly as with the average of families ; the daughter , no * seven years old , was apparently p'oased with the stepmother , and the stepmother manifested npon all occasions a motherly affection for the child , while tbo father seemed more tban pleased with his domestic surrounding * , and has been as well favored in his busi ness pursuits as the generality of his neighbors. If ho had over snrmlatd that ho was liable to such an ernptlon as was gathering strength beneath him for a grand old picnic , he carefully guarded against 1m parting his suspicion to others , and left them entirely unprepared for the event which which was brought about by the appearance of Mrs. Llllte Stevenson npon the scene. This lady arrived about two weeks since , and on making Inquiry for the Stevenson family , was Informed that the father and daughter were out some five miles on a visit , and without delaying to pay her com pliments to Mn Stevenson No. 2 , she procured a ci nvryanco and started out for the other raombeis of the family. Upon her arrival at the ranch to which she was directed , she found the daughter , and without seeing the father , or wlthoul explanation to others , she took the girl into the baggy and at once started back to the town , and tbe father , with other * , being Informed of whal had occurred , mounted horses and followed on to overtake tbo kid napper. As the pirty rode up by the side of the buzgy M . Slovenian roio up from her seat and , presenting a revo'var , informed the party that the was the mother of the child and wife of the man Stevenson , and that she would shoot the tint one who should attempt to again rob her of her child from whom she had been so cruel y separated for the past four voarj. "My husband , " she said , you are welcome to , I want nothing of him ; but my child shall go back to my home with mo or there will be bl > od shed. " The eftdct of this harangue , with pistol accompanl ment , upon her surprised listeners , ex cepttcg pornaps Mr. Stevenson , was to allow her to proceed wlihuut further molestation. On her return to Leo Park , where she sought out wlfo No 2 , and after hnrriedly rurratiog to her own ixperioneo with the bigamist , who had stolen the child from her , and d sorted her , she kindly relinquished all claims and turned him over to the tender mercies of her successor , who WAS making every effort to excel the t astern Udy in berating the bra to who had BO shamefully deceived her , while Mrs , Lill.e S'oAenson ' was buying tickets for two to Uartfoid , Connecticut. The lecture hall of Crelghton college waa filled to its fullest last night. The subject was practical and popularly treated , showing the power and use of science in manufacture ] , in agriculture , and in medicine. At the close of the entertaining Icctnre , Mr. Cornelias Sul ivan proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. John A. Creighton as a patron of tcienco and a public benefactor for founding : ho scientific dopaitment of Orolghton college and thna providing the cultured and ambitious young men the privilege of attending , free of charge , a valuable course of lectures on ( science equal to any n iha country. But trao to ilmselF , he race to his feet and grace fully expressed hisi acknowledgement of , ho honor aojxdleverly and tastefully off-red. Mr. Creighton's response was , In sab stance , that , as knowledge is power in "Ife , and science a great agent In develop og tbo resources cf the west , he had at ie rt the good cf his fellow-citizens in ; hua expending his money. The laboratory , as they taw by the night's experiments ( and every visitor can asturo himsalf cf the fact ) , was well stocked with chemicals and all the appa ratus required for successful experiments. The earnestness and the reputation of ; he lecturers , gained in lirst-claaj colleges ol the east , was pledge sufficient for him ihatho would never regret the invest ment. And he would feel amply re warded In the benefit resulting to the city and to the state when a larger nunv jar of hh already well cultured fellow- citizens would profit by the opportunity of advancing tj the front cf science. A orctasto of this result , he was happy to say , be felt on this occasion in the appre ciation of the gentlemen present. Let ; hem notify their fritnds and bring them along ; for all lovers of tcienco who are ambitious of eelMmprovement , are wel come to attend these able and Interesting lectures. This was the drift of Mr. Creighton's reply. It Is refreshing to see public splritrd benevolence at lengl h recognized ; and wo are g'ad ' to record the compliment thus paid to John A.
