Stocks There hu been a decided reaction
in the stock market to-day. At the opening ,
bears were treated to a genuine surprise by
the etrengto displayed throughout , but it was
allowed by an advnnoa in loaning rates for
ho former , whichdid not culminate in us much
M jj of 1 per cent wai paid for the use of the
stock for the day. The rally was also accom
panied by a decided improvement In the
amount of business dona , and the advance
waa not checked until after 10 o'clock. Later
in the day an effort was made to depress
prices , but tha decllno waa checked before 3
o'clock , and the market closed strong at quot
ations which show advances in almost every
thing on the list , the gains being from i to Ic ,
The lowest prices were generally at the open
ing ; the highest prices were made after 10
o'clock in most cases , and the closlcg prices
are a little below the highest of the day ,

the warmer temperature has a bad effect on
