Stocks The peaceful tenor of early cables

this morning , the first sales being made at a

lower prices were made for the active list , but
the decline was qutcHy chocked and there
was n iractlonal rally before the close of the
first half hour. The market then become Ices
active and BO continued during the greater
part of the day. There was a slight yielding ;
in quotations in the afternoon. There were
not many stocks In which the extreme fluctu
ations amounted tc as much as 1 per cent , ,
and only four show n decline of aa much as 1
per cont. Compared with last evening : , all
the active list is somewhat lower.
