Stocks The market was loss nctlvo than at
any time since last Saturday , and the extreme
fluctuations were generally within the range
ol a little over n cent. The day passed with
out the development of any important rumors
tending to Influence values. Early dealings
were at prices o shade lnwor than the quota
tions of jeatorday , but after the first fifteen
minutes the market rallied without manifest
ing any remarkable strength , and prices before -
fore 11 o'clock were generally n small fraction
higher than last evening. There was con
siderable activity iu early transactions , but
alter a rally the market became dull with only
slight fluctuations nnd continued dull and
steady until after midday , when there were
further fractional gains. In the laat hour it
bccamo heavy again , but closed firm on n
slight rally at prices which in moat cases show
