John Klusa , the mysteriously wounded Polo , is fast recovering under the care of the sisters at St. Joseph's hospital. His wlfo and children were removed Wodnccday from the city to the county jail. Laet night a prank , who says his name is August Jones , was picked up on Douglas etrost and placed in the city jail , He is in ' bad condition mentally and will probably bo S' : v sent to Lincoln by the board of insanity. Fire crackers shot oil at a Douglas street billiard room about midnight frightened a , hack team belonging to George Westmoro into a runaway which broke the forward works of the vehicle and sprained thfl driver's ankle. > , The county clerkwas busy yesterday in getting all of hla old papers ntd books packed up , ready for removal. Policemen BnciLy anil Riiane Inflnto in a Slogging Mata Tlio Palace Saloon' the Scene of the Battle , AVhlcli Lasted far Four Hounds. The police force is supposed to guard the pcaco of the city and BOO that the bum element does not override the laws of the city , but it seems that 'oven the bum element will creep into the police force , and men irho wear blue coats and brass buttons are not always to be depended - pondod upon as peaceful and law-abiding citizens. This fact was verified yesterday morn ing in a row which took place in the Palace saloon on Farnam street. About 4:30 : , only a short time boioro roll call , Ollicor Buckley , whose beat was on Doug las street , was standing at the bar of the above named saloon drinking a Now Year's ogg-uog. Officer Iluino , whoso boat waa on South Thirteenth street , en tered the place and began abasing Buck ley. Buckley turned his back upon Uunno and proceeded to drink his "Lot stuff , Juat as ho turned his back Rnano struck him upon tlio head with hla fist. It was a heavy blow and the egg-nog went ono way and the "cop" the other. Buck ley quickly regained his foot and faced lluano in true pugilistic stylo. They battered each other's faces for J awhile when lluano clincnod nis opponent and both wont to the floor. This ciulud the first round , nnd both incn got upon their fuel and after remov ing their ovoacoats , imido for each ether again , Ju this way four rounds wuru fought , and at the end of the battle both men wuio out of _ breath and pretty badly bruisud up about the face , and thu battlu was duulaicd a draw. During the last" round the fighters getup up into ono of the largo front windows , and had it not been fur Hilly McCimo would have gene thiough the largo plato- glnsi front. No ono knows what had passed batweon the two men before they mot into the sa loon , but it has been supposed for eomo tlmo that there was bad blood botwee them and that they would fight soonoora later. Buckley has bad several fight elnco he has been upon the foroo an lluano is somewhat inclined to baa bully , lioth of the men were off their boats at the tlmo of the fight and were violating the police rules , They have both been suspended by the marahal and the matter will bo investi gated by the committee on police , It la quite probable that the pugilists will ba retired from the force. The Bco oKepora' association of Ne braska will hold its annual meeting at Tooumsoh on January 14th. Action will bo taken in regard to "Foul Brood" with the object of obtaining legislation on the aubjoct. Thla plague has obtained such proportions tions as to threaten the entire destruction of the Boo Hoopers' industry. "Foul Brood , " 'as it is called , is a germ dlsoaao that attacks the boo in every stags of development , but it more especi ally affects the larva. Vrhou the plague appears in a colony , the larva , or young bees are speedily destroyed , and the stench produced ia so great that there is no liability of mistaking the cause of the trouble. In its ravages and violence it strongly resembles cholera among men. The germs impregnate the queen , and all the eggs produced by her afterwards are diseased , nnd the young brood quickly perishes. The honey is diseased and serves to spread ( ho germs of the plaguo. Its violence is so great that it Is impossi ble to Loop beoa in the locality whoto the pest has been for a number of years unices a most thorough disinfectant is used. used.Tho The plague fa known to have ox- la ted among bees over two thousand years ago but only in isolated localities. In modern time the shipment of honey from foreign countries and the exchange of queen boos has spread the infection over a greater extent of country. It rnado its firat appearance in the United States in 1830 and from that year until 1850 its ravages ware unparalleled , whole apiar ies wore swept away leaving not ono out of thousands. It has only been during the past three or four ycara that any earn tire methods have been known and not until the past year have any proved satisfactory nnd that only in the hands of thoroughly sclontifis apiarists. Mich igan and Utah recognising the value of the honey product and the importance of Its production , have passed laws compell ing the destruction by Cro of all affected colonies. The great number of ahiftleiH beo-kccp- crs in ililTurtmt localities lender Riiclv-ltvnH absolutely necessary if the industry is to bo pi csorrcd. , It lias already made ita nppooxinco at several places in th's ' state , at Groim- wood , Graf ton , Fillmore , and is bsljoyed to ox st in an upiavy near Omaha. O in j ; to the largo shipments of honuy ironi the Pacific coast , containing the gomis of Uui disease , it is iitoro than likely that thu [ ilaguo will break out at other uoiiita. It is very important that the legislature of this Ktatu should pas ? laws to restrain , an fnr as possible , the spread < t. the discoso. To recognize the inipoitniue of thobuo- koepuig industry it is outy nccuswiry to uoto that in 1878 the ma-plus production of lumoy amounted u > \\clvu tuns , iu 1883 it hud giown to itOO tons. R. 11.
