It ia an anme nough to have a sociuly paper aud me nero than enoughfor n column in any of lat an ho daily papers , is all that U nt present pai lecoenary for that purpose. 1 do not wnh | to make any disparaging ig smarki on n person of whom I have Br over hoard RIIV ill , but I think it ia too md for brlgnt young man to lot hU raiua run to waite in recording such in- du vy igniiioaut occurrences as seem to como To ndor the head of eocioty events , ( a telly ull hero , or a game of ccrda there , ) and In such mlnuto detail as would load an outsider to Imagine this a town of noino 2,000 inhabitants. The criticism men tioned is ono of the best things that has appeared In that paper. It is THUTII forcibly nnd concisely expressed , nnd as ( such It expressed the sentiments of all our people possessing the average amount of common sense ; and when such aflacta tlon ni n society directory shown itself , It is time for nil who take nn Interest in the ouUido reputation of Omaha to "holler 'nnir , " and suppress the tendency that Is springing np to make horn laughing-stock in the sight of her sin tor cities ; therefore , I mentally ehako hands with the ono who has sot the ball rolling. He is not an Omaha man , of course not in fact , that Institution Is become very scarce horo. Everybody Is , or tries to bo , ns far as n salary of from $40 to $75 per month will allow , n dude , and unless an infusion of brains is Introduced , I shudder to thiuk what may bo the fate of the coming gen- oration. Ono characteristic of the genus dndo is , that they are always known to go In droves , like the nobler animal nhoop , moreover they are Incapable of originat ing an idea , or maintaining nn independ ent opinion. Whcro ono goes nil go , nnd the most popular idea that sways his little tlo circle la the correct thing to go by in the mind of the dude. She may bo pretty , above the average and thus attract the masculine oyo. "Sho is insipid , " pronounces the dudino , nnd that settles it , for the dude lacks courage to countenance anyone who is unpopular with the dudino , besides , it ahowa great profundity of wisdom to aay that beauty and iuaipidity go together , nnd ho congratulates himself on his own mental superiority.
