The Delegates of B , L , E , to ( to
Grand Division Leaye Omaha
To Arrive In Snu Krnnclscn October

tlvo
Yesterday morning the hat special car
carrying ita load of locomotive engineers
on Uiolr way to San Francisco to nttond
their annual grand international conven
tion arrived in thia city over the Chicaco
A llock laland. They vrcro mot nt the
depot by a largo number of their local
and visiting brethren and escorted by
them to the hotels. The day \vaa spent
by the visitors in viewing the sights of
THIS WESTEUN CITV ,
a few taking carriages and riding out t
the fort and other places of interest.
At 2 ji. m. a mooting of the Union wa
held in the rooms of the Omaha division o
the B. of L. E. , to which nil were invitee
and which nearly nil attended. Afto
the mooting was concluded the whol
brotherhood , both local and visiting ,
i formed into a procession on Vourtuont
and Douglas , headed by the Union Pi
ciflc band , and marched down Fourtoont
to Farnam , up Fifteenth to Douglas am
into Falconer s hall , where the wives o
many of the delegates had assembled bo
fore them. The hall had been tastily ar
ranged in honor of the occasion whcr
the wives and lady friends of the mom
bora of Omaha ledge No. 183 were it
waiting to receive the visitors.
After all had boon seated Delegate J
P. Staloy , of Omaha division No. 183 introduced
troducod
IIHANl ) CHIEF AUTHUll ,
who expressed his pleasure for himso !
and his visiting brethren for the kind reception
coption tendered them by Division 18
The speaker continued that ho wouh
state the object of the order to the on
glnoors1 wives , mothers , daughters nn <
sweethearts , that they might know It
noble ends and purposes. Ho neve
would forgot what the ladies had dom
for him and the brotherhood. Uo hat
traveled much for the brotherhood , am
had received many kind welcomes t
many firesides , whioh had often kop
him from discouragement. Ho wouh
aay to the ladies ,
"OOD BLESS YOU ,
for what you have done for the brother
hood for many times , it is certain tha
through yonr words and influence tha
engineers who were halting between two
opinions decided to sustain the brother
hood. Tweuty-ono years ago last May
the brotherhood was formed at Marshal
\ . Michigan , and was organized with twelve
men. It& aim is to elevate the profession
and render aid to the widown nud child
ren of deceased engineers. Within six
teen years $1,533,000 has been distribut
ed to widows and orphans , and SGOO.OOC
to the needy and distressed. This , said
the speaker , is the object for which it
was frrmcd.
It is presumed by some that it has been
organised for the purpose of dictating to
railway managers but this impression is
orroniuua. Its object is
IETTjil : ENGINEERS AND 1'AY COJIMENSU-
HATE.
The troubles of the brotherhood have
all arisen out of the refusals of the rail
roads to recognize and treat it as an or
ganized body.
In conclusion said the speaker "wo
stand for justice , sobriety and morality
and our motto is do unto others as you
would have them do to you and so ful
fil the law. "
N This beautiful address was well received
and during the course of its delivery the
speaker was frequently and loudly ap
plauded by his audionco.
Then came a bountiful repast prepared
by the wivca of No. 183 division mem
bers , und served to the visitors by their
lecal brethren.
Delegate J. L. Wndo , of division 200 ,
of SavnnunIH , for the visiting delegates ,
then i.resontcd the ladies of division 183 ,
of this city , with a
HKAUTirUIi WALNUT DESK ,
to bo used by the members in their rooms ,
upon which the records of the division
are to bo inscribe d. This beautiful gift
waa received by Mr. T. 0. Livingstone ,
of division 183. Mr. Charles Whitney responding
spending to Mr. Wade in n neat little
cpeech of acceptance. 1
After spending a couple of hours very
pleasantly the delegates repaired to their
hotels , About 8 o'clock they began 1
Carting for the depot. Before 5):30 ) : the
depot presented a scene of activity ecl-
doin witnessed. A. train of seven sleep-
urs , tha Silesia , Messina , Bohemia , Castle
Rock , Montana Michigan and Boise City
drawn by the
MONSTER ESOINJ : no. 118
wan pulled up into the depot. Hero the

homo.
The delegates while hero were loud in
their praise of their Omaha brethren and
also its citizeni for the generous and
hospitable treatment received at their
hands , all of which was a matter of great 181
surprise to them. It probably has never
been the pleasure of Omaha to BOO such

About < > o'clock last evening , Olliccrs

conventional process of searching by
jailor and. like common culprits , as-
ignod a barred and grated coll. Mr.
jpccht'a disordered appearance testified
hat his inarch to the jail had boon all of
voluntary and liono'a scalp was cut .
bruised.
The ; wealth and prominence of the
mentioned prisoner immediately
ave the case a flavor of unusual interest
called for its close and thorough in
vestigation. Ollicor Donovan the first
witness and most active principle on the day
of the law gave a full statement of
affair as follows ;
About 0:30 : o'clock last evening , a no-
named Jcsso Price , passing Bpocht'a
establishment was struck on the head by
heavy ; piece of cornice , carelessly (
thrown by some workmen
from the roof. The man ;
Wl
severely hurt and required medical
'
services. Returning from thophyeician'ii 'h
ollico , Price was met by Oliicer JJonovan
coining down Douglas street and covet * wl
his beat. The promiscuous hurling wlm
building material from house-tops in was
the streets of Into , has rendered that of
little ! performance a nuisance and contin ofI'J
his walk , Donovan dropped into I'J
plcco'to demonstrate against the
diarogard of municipal prpjriotor there '
domonatratcd. Spuch't , in a tone of
deiianco asked the ollicer if lin Imu

chair and eoized the ollicer by the Bhoul- .ho

Donovan refused , and the angered cur-
king proceeded to eject his visitor. in
tide nf battle , however , waa going in
Djnovon'a favor , and Spocht called fur
assistance , The cry ma promptly n-1 i U
sworcd , eight or ton of the employes
mailing forward from tha shop , each
armed with heavy melal slioirs. Donovan
van rolodn il Spcoht and covered the rr-
liof with his pistol. Then Sppcht con-
tinned his rfMiso , and prochimed that ho ,

by a potty minion of the local law.
Donovan , thus set at dofmneo , depirtcd
and srctired tha assistance of Ollicer Bud-
ish. Katurning , the two rfhcora collared
Mr. Spocht , and induced linn forcibly as
fnr as llio pavement , when bo foil on the
ground and howled for helj. Again the
tillnnt ; ref ervo appeared , nml shears in
hand attacked the jioliivufii. Once
innro Donovan produced Ins revolver ,
and checked the nssiuilt on hit )
wing. Meanwhile tlouo had ao

Bitrdlsh's throat and the two were strug
gling oft'on a littln private tack. Finally

and llurdish with Hone under his arm
marched oll'to jail. A short half hour
subsequently Mr. Spocht secured a suf-
Relent monetary guarantee of his appear
ance in the morning , and in turn [ risking
that obligation for llowo , the twain were
released. Ollicor Donovan 1ms preferred
charges of assault upon nn ollicor against
