Tlio Oponlnu
This evening is tlio time act for the
grand opening , or rather ro-oponing , of
the Creston house. The name has become -
como A familiar one , nnd yet the hotiao
has been so enlarged and improved that
it moans moro than over before. The
now addition with 25 foot frontngo on
Main street , nnd depth of 100 fcot , has
boon finished nnd furnished , nnd the
rest of the house completely changed nnd
improved , so thnt thcro is n big pile of
stone nnd brick , the entire frontngo being -
ing near 100 feet and the depth 100 fcot.
The front is of atone , thrco stories high ,
nnd presents n 'landsomo npponrnnco.
The interior of the house is very nttrnc *
Uvo. .Sixty-four sleeping rcoms , besides
parlors , dining rooms , etc. Every modern
improvement nnd convenience has boon
provided , including fire nlnrms running
from and to cnch room , electric call belli !
also connecting each room with tin
ollico , fire escapes , nnd , in fnct , every
thing needful for the snfoty nnd comforl
of the gueata. It is n hotel of which Max
Slohn may well fool proud , nnd on
which will enable him to ncuoinmodnti
his many friends und customers very
hnppily.
Max Mohn may well bo congratulated
on his success. Ho settled in Council
Bluffs Juno ! Hh , 180 ! ) , and for ton yoara
worked for wngos , by industry nnd econ
omy , managing to gather a little means
together , nnd then opened a boarding
hpuso on Mnin street just below where
his fine hotel now stands. Four years

SKINNER WITHDRAWS.
Sc is Not To Get One-Third of tlic
Thousand Dollars ,
Tlio DlvT Now Flxod.
The squabble over the $1,000 rorrard
adored for the capture of Reynolds is
now ondcd. It will bo remembered that
TUP. BKK exposed the fact that a written
agreement hud boon privately entered
into by which Oflicora Hurley undTowns ,
who captured the man , were to submit
to having Chief Skinner got one-third ,
the nnmo 03 thoy. It appears
that Chief Skinner was not so much to
blame for claiming a third aa some other
officials who urged him on , nnd who ad'
vpcatod the justice of giving him $333
Dimply because ho was the superior officer.
Chi f Skinner has soon the mistake of
such a course and like a little man hns
concluded not to insist on a divy , the
following being the written withdrawal :
"I , Thomas Skinner , chief of pohco
of Council Bluffs , Iowa , do hereby re-
Icoso and relinquish nil of my
claims and interests In nnd to the
rewards heretofore oflbrod by any and nil
persons or associations for the capture of
ono James Itoynolds , also all liability by
roison of an agreement made and entered
into by and between the Sheriffs' noso-
cialion of Iowa , and myself nnd other of
the police force of Council Bluffs , Iowa ,
on or about the 20th day of July , 1881. "
This result of the private settlement
made in Mayor Vaughan's oflioo having
boon done nway with , n now
arrangement has boon mado. Sheriff
Dun Farrell has given his note for
SICOO duo August 15 , and deposited in
( JJlicor it Pujoy's bank. Of this amount
8250 is to bo paid to the railway men
who gave the oflicors the pointers on the
man , nnd the remaining $7HO to bo di
vided equally between Ofllcora Hurley
undTowns. Just how this will auit the
little mayor , who was so eager for his
ahlof of police to got a tmaru , remains to
bo soon , that official buing now absent
