On Moilday night , for in stance , n notice was served on Mayor Ynughan that a suit hadhocn commenced against the city by Wright & Baldwin as attorneys for T. A. Donton. It appears that Dcnlon had boon given tlio contract for filling up Eighth street , from Third to Fifth nvonuo , nt 22 centa a yard. Some of the property owners interested had advanced him money from time to time to keep him along until ho could got his certificate on completion of the work. Tlio work is now completed , but the council for some reason best known to the members , refuses - fuses to give him the cortificato. Some say that the pretext offered is that Dcnton had uotno understanding with the property owners. Others say ho doesn't buy his beer nt the right placo. However this may bo , Denton , to protect himself , has brought suit. After thd adjournment of the nonncil , nnd the mayor , city attorney , mid others had gathered nt the Broadway council chambqr , the mayor wont down into his pocket and brought out the crumpled notice , remarking , "Hero's the darned thing now ; I didn't want these news paper follows to got a hold of it. The city attorney was free to confess that the city would bo downed in the suit , under the recent decision of the supreme court , and others thought it ought to bo fixed up some wny.
