the advance in grain rates and the favora
ble bank statement and on the seml-ollicial
Announcement that the Lake Slioro company
will declare its usual quarterly dividend of 2
per cent , this month and not It as li.ul been
predicted by thu boars. All the leading
shares were in brisk demand from the open-
inguntil near I p. m , , and advanced 4@2jj per
cent. After the time mentioned the market
became dull , but at tno delivery hour the
room traders broke Northern Pacific perform !
from 4" ! to 45 , Union 1'acifio fell off 1 § on
the rojort that the May earnings would show
a net decrease of 8350,000 , and other nctho
shares declined J to 1J per cent. At the close
there was a iccovcry of | @ij per cent. an < l the
market closed steady ; Now York Central and
Missouri Pacific sold ox-dividend this forenoon.
Compared with last night , the closing prices
are from $ to 1J per cent , higher , except for
Northern Pacificprefeired and Omaha , which
are i to 1 | per cent , lower.
