OMAHA'S ' COPS , They Can't ' Tell Tlic Difference Be tween Council Bluffs' ' Aldermen and Confidence Men , . They Gobble Up Ono of the Oity Fathers and Look Him Up , MlataUo. Council MUilfe' youngest and moat comely aldormnn had nn ndvonturo in Omaha a day or two ngo which rilud up his blood and sot it boiling with right' cons indignation. It waa Alderman McMahon. IIo skipped over to Omnha on the dunnry train , hiuing promised to meet a friend there and take a buggy ride about the city. Not finding his friend at the plnco designated , ho stood waiting and watching a few minutes , when along comes a burly cop , who tap ped him on the shoulder w Mi , \ "I want you you'ro the follow who turn ed ( that trick the other day , " and without giving tinio for any explanation or identification the follow insisted on hio going along. The policeman called to his assistance a detective - tectivo and then the city marshal took hold , and with this showing of the pow er of the great city of Omana , the young alderman had to march along. Ho asked them to stop at Bon Nowman'a atoro , or Ilamgo's , or any of the well known busi ness houses where ho was acquainted , but they simply told him to inarch along , and when ho wont into his pocket to got ono of his business curds to present ; o them , ono ollicor on each .side grabbed his arms , fearing ho was going to shooter draw a "rozzor. " They evi dently thought they had cnntnred a dos- pernto prize , and took no chances. They would nut utop to lot hint uppcal to "riunda for identification but hurried him Uong to the calabooso , stripped him of Ilia watch and chain , and other valuables md locked him up. It was nearly two liours before some of his business ac quaintance in Omaha being informed of the matter , arrived at the jail and made Ilia identification complete and Hccuijod lis release. Mo is now in doubts whether ho had jotter sue his. face for libel , or thump : ho stupidity out of the Omaha ollicors. Bo is so hot that ho sisscs when touched about it. It might do to arrest all alder men as confidence men , who had badly 'oolcd the public which had elected them , out to single him out aa an exception , and treat htm thus rudely , aa a little more than oven his good nature can stand np under. If the city council keeps that marshal in power , they may well look out for themselves , for revenge is sweet , and if any of them stray over to this side , they may bo expected to bo run in and kept in. McMahon may now bo expected to sot sot down heavily on the scheme of having another bridge across to Omaha. Cross ing one has got him into trouble enough and if Omaha is to treat other official visitors as they treated poor Mac , all communication will bo rut off. K Omaha officers wore really as keen after real con fidence men as they appear to bo to run in innocent follows , there might bo some excuse , but as it is , with real confidence men running at large , Mac has a right to refuse any apology and satisfy himself only with gore.
