Purchases for Investment and speculative

decidedly easier , nud after lending at J per

the close. Dunks Were much more liberal to
borrowers. The total issue of clearing house
certificates is 817,003,000 , of which 50,300,000
were talcon by banks during the day. The
feature of the market was heavy for foreign
account ; also the action of the United States
troasuTor in transferring 88,000,000 legal
tenders to thin point.
Stocks Opened at an advance of J@3Jj per
cent. , the latter for Central Pacific , which
rose to 110i ; about 11 , a sharp attack was
made on coal shares , duo to the report that
the coal combination had disrupted. .Torsoy

Union about this time bocaino strong , rose to
GGJ , and turned the market upward. In the
afternoon Louisville and Nashville and Mis.
souri Pacific were weak , but the transfer of
legal tondora to this city caused prices to ad

largo blocks of stocks changed hands. Com

was a much better feeling in railroad bonds.
Some paper advances were made. The im
