ral , and a irarkod dapresslon in the prices in

soy Central went from 82i to 77. Tha heavy
Balling in the stock wat brought about by the
reports that the Reading was financially em-
harassed , and would hava to sacrifice some
securities in its treasury to meet a pressing
demand ; that the company had been called
upon to take up Jersey Central stock huld
hero and at Philadelphia , and could not respond
spend at tha last moment. The report was
denied , and Jersey Control advanced tt > SO } ;
Heading to 42jj The bears , however , soon
broke both the stocks again. In the final
dealings , Jersey Central rallied to 7 ! > i ; Read
ing to 43J , In other active shares , the mark
et was comparatively staady throughout , ex
cept a slight decline early in the day , closing
firm. Low-pricod south-west sharas were
steady. Trunk lines ware strong on roprrtj
that new proceedings had been agreed upon ,
and that the official announcement of the
agreement would bs made shortly. It was
stated that the roads had decided to abide by
ths decision of arbitrators. . Union Pacific
was strong , attributable to dispatches from
Chiogo which stated that the Burlington &
Quincy and Tripartite conference bad been
harmonious , and that the questions under con
sideration wore nearer settlement than at any
Ume since nagotiations were opened. Com *
pared with last nijht's closing , prices are 3J

wheat sold as high as Oljc , back to 935 , up to
93Jo and is now about 93gc. June corn la
quoted at 651 ; , Jnne pork is $1710. June
Lard la 98 65. The receipts In wheat hero
yesterday were two thousand bushels , Ship
ments , 82,000.
1:10 p. m. The market continued very
strong until 11 o'clock Juno wheat advancing
to 9-JJc , and then eased nil and closed steady
at about opening prices.
