In Yesterday's ' Test It Boars Up Thirty TODS Wthont FccliDE It , Tin- Now Ktrtivliiro Open lor Trn\ol. Yesterday forenoon the now iron bridge across Main direct vraa duly tested in the presence of Mayor Bowman , the county board of supervisors , nnd several citizens. The city ollicials , with the exception of the mayor , wore conspicuous by their absence , but , like most of the citizens , they felt that there was httlo need of testing any brulgo built by Raymond & Campbell , vrhoso reputation as contrac tors is firmly established throughout the country. As a test for the strength of the bridge , wagons loaded with dirt wore hauled upon it , the horses detached , nnd the wagons run snug together until thir teen of them were in placo. Each ol the wagona thus loaded weighed 4HOC pounds , so that the total weigh ! was nearly thirty tons , including the horses , the men and the hcnvj body known as the county board. Tin dotloction of the bridge was less than _ r quarter of an inch. This now bridge ii the handsomest bridge in the city. It ii an iron structure 100 foot in length , will an eighteen foot roadway and two BU foot sidownlks. It cost f < 4,500 , and iti estimated strength is ono ton to the footer or in all about JOO tons. It Booms higl enough to allow oven flood waters t < pnps through , but it appears that the olc toot-bridgcs nnd other obstruction ; j should bo cleared out at once , lest the ; bo swnpt away and lodged so as to di damngo.
