If thomon , women anil children of America could see the danger thut U lurking around thorn each diiy and on every sidu , the most courageous would losi heart , nppotito and sleep. Air , oven in the most open localities , is loaded with poison. Water is liable to con tain animal matter that will develop and grsw after beinR taken into tlio system. Food is al most certain to ba adulterated while accidents are always imminent. It is perhaps n merci ful provision that few of these things are t > con and fewer realized , but their danger is nil tlio greater for this \ery reason. Most people who road those lines nro almost certainly on tlio threshold of what may bo a serious , possibly a fatal danger. Tlio forces tliat go to make life may ho snapped instantly or by gradual de grees. The greatest dangers are often the most silent nnd least observed , and no ono can alFord to neglect oven their slightest appear ance. ance. These truths wore strikingly illustrated in the experience of a gentleman well known to most of the American public. Mr. .T. W. Ferguson , who in the play , "A Friendly Tip , " unpor the management of Mr. W. W , Kelly , has been making such a pronounced success , is perhaps the best light comedian ou the fitago. lie is a gontlomm of slight build possessing a grace of manner nnd modulation of voice spe cially attractive because of its rarity. He has worked hard and conscientiously in the past and his success is the result of merit and la bor. But for a number of years , nnd indeed up to n comparatively short time , Mr. Fergu son was most mysteriously nlllicted , so much so , that ho refused numerous tempting offers to travel through the country ai far an California and played only in Now York and vicinity. Spoaldng to a lepresontativo of this paper up on the subject , he said : "I was conscious that something was si lently but Htiroly working against my lifo. " Phillips Dculli nnd Funeral , BOSTON , February C. At an early lour this morning people bcRnn to gather ibout the late residence of Wendell Phil ips. None were admitted to the house tmt intimate friends nnd relations. There wore no services in the housn. At 11 o'clock the collin was berne from tlio house to tlio hcatso. Several hun dred persons , including many co-workers , followed the remains to the old Hollis street church , where the funeral services took place , conducted by Rov. The inte rior of the church was jammed to suffoca tion by the friends nnd relatives of the dead orator. Among these attending Lho services were largo commiUecs from both houses of the legislature , the com mon council in a body , delegates from the Women's Suffrage- association and labor organizations. After the services tlio body was berne to Fancuil hall , and as soon us the crowd n ere gotten into order by the police the public were formed into linen and admit ted. The coHiu was guarded by four col ored soldiers. The face of Air. Phillips wears a placid half smiling expression , but its appearance is most natural. People passed reverently by the coffin before the guard of honor , and then quietly departed from the liall. After the public had withdrawn , and just pre vious to the removal of the remains , a plaster cast of the head was taken at the request of the family. The funeral pro cession ro-formed and the cotuu was berne to the old Grrman burying ground on Tromont street. The streets wore again crowded , and streets in the vicinity of the burial ground were densely packed. There were no formal ceremonies - monies at the tomb. The ofh'n was placed in the Phillip * ' famly tomb.
