The following dispatch to the Now York Times will bo road with interest by Mr. Billman's friends in Omaha : NEW HAVBN , February 1. For the past two months the pulpit of the Con gregational 'church in Killing n-orth has boon acceptably filled by the llov. Ira 0. Billman , nn eloquent preacher , who came to Connecticut from Adrian , Mich. Before fore his coming the church had boon without- pastor for a year. The Rov. Mr. Billman'o sermons brought largo congregations to the church , and at a recent mooting of the society's com- inittoo it was unanimously decided to invite vito him to occupy the pulpit perma nently. The oiler was accepted , and a meeting of the consociation'of which the KilHngworth church is a part , waa called to admit the Rov. Mr. Bilhnan to fellow ship. The reputation of the minister from Michigan for erudition and olo- < iuonco had spread into the adjoining towns , and , it is eaid , tbo boaita of seine of the Killingwor tn people regarding the talontn of their now pastor caused con siderable ill-fooling amont ? the ministers of neighboring churches. Onoof thorn , tlio Rov. A. 3. OhoBoborougli , who preaches in Durham , just north of Killingworth , wrote to n friend iu Adrian , where the Rov. Mr. Billman came from , for in * formation regarding the past Ufa of the preacher whom it was proposed to admit to fellowship. Tha facts contained in the answer were made public at the con sociation mooting , which waa a stormy ono. It Booms that the Rov. Mr. Bill- man is , or was , A Unitarian , and lias been divorced from two wives. The ministers could not como to decision regarding the propriety of admitting htm to mem bership and adjourned to incut ngain noit Wednesday , when the subject will bo further discussed. The Rov. Mr. Billman proposes to stay in Killingworth , no matter what is the action of the consociation. Ho says ho waa once the pastor of a Unitarian church , but has renounced that boliof. 'o the deacons of the church ho hai roved that his opinions now are perfect ly orthodox. Regarding the two divorcw 10 says : "My first wife drove mo froin ivory church I was called to by her ua- governable temper She made so inich , roublo in the congregation that it was mpossiblo for mo to retain any pulpjt , and at last I waa obliged to got a divorce or leave the ministry. Then I remained single for several yean. I married again , but in lean than a week I discovered that my tocond wife belonged to a free love society. In two weeks from ray wedding day I won a divorced man for the second time " This explanation fully eatutied the Killingworth people , and they are determined to engage him permanently. They prefer naturally to hive the mno- tion of the consociation , but if this cannot - not bo obtained they will still engage the Rov. Mr. Billman. Held up itml llobbod.
